Basola Duine

Basola Duine is the Al'Duine coming of age ceremony. It is celebrated during Soladari at Tranquil Haven. Every boy and girl who has turned 16 in the past year goes through it. At this age, boys begin training with the men of the tribe in martial skills, desert navigation, and Jinth riding. Girls choose whether to be a Jinth rider or to receive her own tent and begin learning from the elder women how to be a wife.

History

The oral records of the Al'Duine tell of this ceremony as long as anyone can remember.

Execution

All of the scattered groups of Al'Duine come together and the 16-year olds are brought to the center of the circle of elders. They each take an oath to continue the Al'Duine traditions. The girls choose their Jinth or their tent. The girls who chose tents are instructed and assisted to put up their tents for the first time. The boys and the Jinth-riding girls have their first rides and races are held. Races are for speed, distance, tug-of-war, and hauling. The ceremony ends with a feast.
