Nergalee, the Guildmaster

Nergalee is an archdruid and the leader of Lothal's Adventurer's Guild. She is a direct descendent of one of the guild's founders (her great-grandmother, on her mom's side). Generally, Nergalee sees to much of the guild's paperwork and its day-to-day running, including acting as liaison with government officials. In the rare moments she takes to the field, her druidic magic can unleash the full force of nature on Lothal's enemies and even bring her fallen allies back from the dead.   Table of Contents

History

Lothal's Founding

Nergalee was the one who cast the final vote among the Adventurer's Guild leading council that the guild would become involved in the War of Sea and Sky. She lead the guild's adventurers directly from the front, using her powerful druid magic to turn the forces nature against the invading armies and bolster her allies with magical healing. It was also Nergalee who convinced the gold dragon Shimmerscale to become involved in the war, providing the future Kingdom of Lothal with much needed support. In the final battle that saw the invaders pushed back across their borders, Nergalee fought side-by-side with the future king Paul Shapechanger. Paul lost his life in that battle and Nergalee revived him with a reincarnation spell, changing Paul from a half-orc to half-elf and earning him in "shapechanger" moniker.

Meeting the Headhunters

Nergalee was initially unaware of the Headhunters activities or the Morlocks return thanks to Mira's sabotage of guild documents during the werecat's time as a spy. To say that Nergalee wasn't happy upon discovering someone had been killing her adventurers and covering it up was an understatement. The guildmaster practically flew into a frenzy, swearing to get to the bottom of this matter before summoning a magical chariot pulled by her pegasi, Pancakes and Waffles, to take the Headhunters to meet Sir Hunter von Huntington V and track down Levira.   After the party returned with Sir Huntington's remains, Nergalee used her magic to reincarnate his damaged body as a halfling. She informed the Headhunters that she would be placing a guildwide ban on the use of Gravestones and implementing a buyback program to get adventurers to turn them in willingly. When the party mentioned they were next headed into the Great Sengorian Forest, Nergalee offered to accompany them as she herself was headed in that direction after being summoned by one of the Animal Lords.   Nergalee let the party take the lead on their trip through the forest, wishing to observe their skill firsthand in the field. They soon entered the Bear King's territory and came to a village of peaceful lycanthropes, where the Headhunters managed to learn a probably location of one of Chigiri's 7 Swords. Needing to head in a different direction, Nergalee took her leave with the party and went to her audience with the Bee Queen. The archfey was concerned about recent happenings in the Kingdom of Lothal, having noticed side effects of Levira's machinations and seeking a report about how the guild had dealt with the Great Ant Invasion. Nergalee was able to lay the Bee Queen's concerns to rest before returning to the guildhall.

Advising the Headhunters

From this point on, Nergalee took a much more active role against the Morlocks and often served as a source of wisdom for the Headhunters. Chigiri came to her for advice on how to deal with Sweetmeat and learned that it was Nergalee's mother who had trapped the rakshasa within the sword Chigiri found. Since Sweetmeat would just be sent back to the Lower Planes if killed, Nergalee suggested imprisoning him on Mount Celestia and advised Chigiri to seek out Commander Truestrike for assistance, giving him a reference letter for introductions.   Later, Nergalee intervened when Hugh Morris accidentally released an allip from a cursed book inside the guildhall. Nergalee demonstrated her druidic power by instantly vaporizing the undead with a maximum power moonbeam spell, shocking the adventurers present with the extent of her power. When Hugh admitted Sweetmeat had previously tried to magically charm the Headhunters inside the guildhall, the angry Nergalee put them under house arrest until they could be magically examined.   Having cooled off a bit by the next morning, Nergalee lent her ear to Artie when he informed her that Mary Ann had secretly held onto a Gravestone despite the guildwide ban. Tired of the Azure Sorcerers attitude, she told Artie while the Headhunters, now cleared by their magical examinations, were free to continue their quest.

Fighting the Morlocks

During the Battle of Inkhear, Nergalee initially led the adventurers into the swamp when the Morlocks pushed the local monsters towards the city as a distraction. She held the line there with a number of adventurers while sending her grandfather Dume back to the city to assess the situation there. She was dismayed to later learn that Mesogog had broken free and began to commit the guild's full resources to battling his forces.   Nergalee was in the process of organizing a search for the Morlocks when Gentleman Jack managed to get a message to the guild revealing the location of the Gravecannon. Nergalee was quick to marshal every on-hand guild member and send them into the mountains to stop the Morlocks, but before she could leave a messenger informed her the town guard had Levira cornered in an alley. Taking the Headhunters with her, this turned out to be a trap as Levira undid a polymorph spell on a worm she carried, turning it back into a purple worm and forcing Nergalee to use up some of her most powerful magic banishing it before the fight against the Morlocks had properly begun.   Riding to the mountains with the Headhunters, Nergalee led her people from the frontlines alongside Sir Huntington while the Headhunters and several other adventurers flanked the enemy. Her mastery of natural magic animated great trees and brought down avalanches to battle the hordes of Molders, Shadow Skulls, and the Morlocks' duergar allies. Once the fighting died down, Nergalee was forced to verbally reprimand Leliana for using some of the guild's few diamonds, meant to be saved for reviving Platinum-ranked adventurers if necessary, to resurrect Chigiri.   Following the battle, Nergalee was summoned to the capital to give a report to King Paul Shapechanger and Queen Adria Durron. As such, she was not present when Levira made her final move and was ultimately stopped by the Headhunters. After their success, Nergalee promoted the members of the group to Gold-ranked adventurers and offered to give each of them any boon reasonably within her power as a reward for their efforts.
