Mary Ann, the Snobbish Mage
Mary Ann is a prodigal mage and knows it, which is largely responsible for her reputation as a snob. Apprenticed to the head of the Azure Mages, a sub-group within the Adventurer's Guild, Mary Ann only shows interest in serving the guild's interests when they align with her own. When guild members needed to be examined for side effects from Gravestone usage, Mary Ann was one of the magic users performing the examinations. This indirectly brought her, and the rest of the Azure Mages, into a recurring conflict with the Headhunters.
While Chigiri was being examined, he accidentally let slip that one of his swords had been enchanted with rune magic. Mary Ann had long been trying to rediscover the lost runic arts and grabbed his sword to examine it. This enraged Chigiri, who was under the effect of a curse that caused him to horde his possessions. Shortly thereafter, Artie was examined and noticed Mary Ann had neglected to turn over her own Gravestone. He soon reported this to the Guildmaster, forcing Mary Ann to deal with Nergalee's anger instead of continuing to hound Chigiri.
Mary Ann and the rest of the Azure Mages spent a great deal of time trying to use their political power to seize Chigiri's magic items for examination. They even tried to gain permission to interrogate Chigiri himself, by whatever means they considered necessary. Their argument was that if it brought the benefit of rune magic to the Guild, it was worth it. Fortunately, the Headhunters had gained many allies in the Guild who stepped in to protect their friends from the Azure Mages' influence. Once the battle against the Morlocks was over, the Headhunters were national heroes and far above Mary Ann's capabilities to threaten. But they were forever the recipients of her ire.
