Lords Alliance
A confederation of powerful cities across the Sword Coast, led by a High Queen.
"For a century and a half, and more, the Lords' Alliance has stood as the most important and influential group in the North. Its power has kept towns safe from the predations of larger powers, has kept the ambitions of Luskan in check, and has taught the rulers of many cities that it is better to cooperate, even for a time, then to merely shut one's doors and allow the storms to rage outside." - Andew Cururen, a Lords' Alliance agent of note
Citizenship
Citizenship in the Lords Alliance is granted to all those born in an incorporated city within a territory of the Lords Alliance. It allows for enlistment in the military, and the ability to vote in elections (wherever applicable. The Lords Alliance isn't a democracy but some cities vote in their leaders, such as in New Neverwinter, which elects an open Lord).
Citizenship does come with identification, but this is generally ignored in all but the largest cities, and in most cases judged by steroetypes. The identification can be granted by the military, a registered Guild/College, or a local council. Regardless, it contains your name, a brief description of appearance, and if obtained in New Neverwinter a desgination from the MARC (the Mystic Arts Regulatory Commission, which officiates spellcasting).
It may also contain convictions, if previously convicted of a crime. The Lords Alliance is a feudal nation, and as such has a strict internal hierarchy: 1) King/Queen 2) Duke/Duchess 3) Prince/Princess 4) Marquess/Marquis 5) Earl, Count/Countess 6) Viscount/Viscountess 7) Baron/Baroness 8) Baronet 9) Knight 10) Citizen With noble titles strongly associated with land ownership, and given out by the royal family.

Demography and Population
The Lords alliance controls major coastal cities, and as such has a sizeable human population. They make up around 80% of the total population, followed by elves at around 12%, dwarves at 7% and other races combining to form the remaining 1%.

Military
The alliance usually hired adventurers to work for them in the past for tasks ranging from gathering simple information, or even for use in raids against Zhentarim strongholds and outposts. Local adventurers could quickly gain status, as well as powerful friends by helping the alliance, but can just as easily make enemies of the sinister Zhentarim as a result.
Foreign Relations
The Lord's Alliance has long been enemies of the Zhentarim crime syndicate, which aims to disrupt the sea trade of the alliance, which would cripple their economy.
They've been at war with Corymr for the past few decades, which only recently ended with the treaty of stone. Their naval power is great, but they struggle with land combat.
Agriculture & Industry
A primarily agrarian economy, but recently New Neverwinter has adopted new industries. While the Northwest has embraced this industry (being too cold for growing crops in two yearly cycles, halving their productivity), the south is cautious of this new technology. Many feel it is just a house of cards waiting to fall down. But in the meantime they trade food and equipment north in exchange for Neveren iron and precision tools.
Trade & Transport
The Lords Alliance is Toril's largest untarrifed market. After local tarrifs were abolished, the free movement of trade within the Alliance has proved one of it's strongest assets.

Legislative Body
The Senate. The voting citizens of each city elect a Lord, who in turn sends one of their subordinates to the senate.
The senate meets in Waterdeep and writes and suggests laws. They only act in an advisory capacity, however, with the royal family able to veto any law they wish. Moreover, the senate can only pass laws which affect the entire alliance, and have very little local power.
