Marisborough (mares-bruh)

Whether gentle breezes and rolling swells or perilous storms with thrashing waves, the high seas will never be fully tamed. This unparalleled wonder and potential for adventure is what draws many to the ocean.   Admiral Wavecrest; a once feared triton pirate turned to the side of justice and now a high ranking officer in the Lord’s Navy claimed his first love was the sea. His dream; to one day set sail and live his life on the open waters, never again to return to land.
Alador Fletcher; a very talented craftsman that turned his sights towards shipwrighting, wants to someday have his sea vessels reach Kaistora. His dream; to design a ship of legend that no other could ever rival.
Benedict Montclair; an aristocrat that is very concerned how the war with Cormyr could affect his wealth. His dream; to found an economic trade establishment in order to expand his pockets and grow a revenue unaffected by political circumstances. A deep, personal friend with Lord Felicity House, who helped fund the Marisborough project.   These men, now known colloquially as the Three Sons of the Sea, are turning their dreams from concepts into reality. Thus their combined brainchild became Marisborough. A small thriving floating town located in the sea roughly between Gundarlun and Leilon.   The town has only around 50 permanent residents though often up to as many as 300-400 sojourners. Marisborough is a bustling trading and supply hub where food and materials are often stocked in bulk, merchants, sailors, pirates and navy officials all use marisborough as a place to anchor and restock during long journeys. Marisborough has a strange lawless peace, though it is officially governed by the Lord’s Alliance. The town has a marketplace canal splitting it down the middle and dividing its two halves, Port and Starboard.   Port is the business ‘district’. It is home to the port (where it gets its name). This side is where you will find most of your bulk goods, shipwrights, trading posts and fishermen. Connected by a wide wooden bridge referred to as the Main Deck (which forms the town square), as well as a series of smaller rope bridges, is Starboard. Starboard is the name of the residential ‘district.’ It consists mostly of small houses, taverns and inns. Starboard is home to the Crows Nest, an observatory that uses the stars and many esoteric tools for navigating the town should it ever need to move. Starboard has a strictly enforced rule against mooring as the noise of loading and unloading cargo could be disturbing to the residents.   Marisborough is currently anchored, though is very capable of acting as a mobile marine fortress. It is equipped with many sails and a rudder the size of buildings. At its core is Alador’s pride and joy that he refers to as the Heart. The Heart is currently the smallest known steam engine, which powers the town’s movement (the sails are more for show but help ease the burden of the Heart). The Heart works based on the same principles as the factories that power the chain network but seaworthy. This feat of ingenuity was just short of a miracle according to Alador, he does not trust anyone other than himself to maintain the Heart, if something were to go wrong it could spell the end of Marisborough.   The pride of the Lords Alliance's navy, Marisborough has sailed up the river Dessarin a few times since it's construction, as a show of force against Cormyr (the river Dessarin marks the border between the two nations). A floating military base which rivals the ingenuity of the Cormyn airships, Marisborough is constantly full of the ships and sailors of the Lords Navy.   “When we first docked at Marisborough it was a lot to take in. Our ship needed some urgent repairs when we decided to investigate the rumours of a seaborne city. Safe to say the rumours were true and the crew could not be happier! I’d have to personally recommend Marisborough’s Maritime Mead. They say it’s made with the salt water from the ocean but its flavour is a uniquely sweet and strong, almost coconutty, but somehow its RED!!? I wish they sold it everywhere!” - Captains Log from the Aumanator’s Lionheart.
