Character Creation Guide

“In 2077, they voted my city the worst place to live in America. Main issues? Sky-high rate of violence, and more people living below the poverty line than anywhere else. Can’t deny it; it’s all true. But everybody still wants to live here. This city always has a promise for you. Might be a lie– an illusion, but it’s there, just around the corner. And it keeps you going.” — V

Lifestyles in Neon Eden represent the life you came from, the streets you walked, and the networks you rely on. They’re not jobs or classes, but the world that shaped you. Each Role represents your archetype/class, your place in the ecosystem of Night City. Every role offers a unique ability, income type and extra bonuses to skills related to their role.

  Rocker — Inspire crowds and fans alike, giving you sway with choombs. Gather fans and use them to your advantage.
Media — Search for anything, uncover everything. Help other roles perform their jobs easier.
Solo — A killing machine, an expert in combat. Deadly in ranged or melee fights.
Fixer — With the vast amount of networking and contacts, get anything you want for a price.
Netrunner — The NET is your home, hack, upload data, surf the unexplored and always be weary of ICE.
Medtech — Everyone's best friend, able to heal, perform surgeries, therapy, install cyberware and concocting drugs.
Techie — Knows everything about tech, able to upgrade vehicles, weapons, repair armor and craft.

For further information about role abilities and extra utility, consult each role page so you make an informed choice.

LANGUAGES

After selecting a role, you’ll choose your languages. You get two. Note that English is not automatic; you must pick it if you want to speak it.

STATS

Stats define your capabilities similar to D&D ability scores. All begin at 2, and you have 42 points to distribute across them.

    • Intelligence – Increases the skill value in the mental group, your education, accounting and so on
    • Reflexes – Needed to use ranged weapons effectively and if you want to unlock the ability to dodge ranged attacks.
    • Dexterity – Needed for melee combat and how well you dodge enemy attacks.
    • Technique – Increases the skill value in technical skills, usually around cyberware, machines and first aid.
    • Cool – Your charisma, increases your ability to persuade, conduct deals and be influence.
    • Willpower – Your will to resist the hardships of life, determination. Increases your Health Points.
    • Luck – Just that, a pool you can use when you really need luck.
    • Movement – How much can you run during combat.
    • Body – Your physical strength and body, increases your Health Points
    • Empathy – Your humanity. How much cyberware you can install before you lose yourself.

Empathy and Humanity: Empathy gets converted to humanity at a rate of EMPATHY*10. This represents your total point pool to install cyberware. Each piece of cyberware permanently reduces your humanity by 2, but not your Empathy STAT. Do not worry, you are able to remove cyberware down the line.

SKILLS

Each skill adds to your dice pool for relevant rolls. Choose what suits your concept best!

The total value of a skill roll is always: STAT+SKILL+1d10
With the STAT being depending on the skill, i.e. rolling Endurance is WILLPOWER while dance is DEXTERITY.

Note: Melee Weapons covers all cybernetic melee weapons including Gorilla Arms and Knucks.
The martial skill can't be learned during character creation. It must be discovered while out in Arcadia.

FINISHING YOUR CHARACTER

Once your stats, skills, and languages are set, make sure to select the Save and Close button.

As we near the end of the character creation, double-check everything one last time and once you're sure, hit the finalise button located on your RpR menu, Abilities tab. This will allow you to install your neuroport, speaking of which...

NEUROPORTS

Neuroports are the one piece of free cyberware granted at creation. They provide neural links, holophones, biomonitors, and virtual interfaces. They do not consume any humanity

    • Allows cyberware installation and system integration;
    • Provides a HUD and communication overlay;
    • Includes biomonitor for health and biometrics;
    • Contains a Virtu implant for VR and braindance experiences;
    • Offers two chipware sockets for data or skill chips;
    • Functions as a interface plug for interfacing with tech and networks;
    • Comes with a chyron which allows you to make phonecalls and send text messages to other people;

Install your Neuroport via Abilities → RipperDoc → Install Neuroport before leaving spawn.

It's HIGHLY advised you install a neuroport for a smooth life in the 2077. Not having one is akin to being in modern times without a smartphone or internet;
If you picked the Netrunner role, after installing your neuroport you'll receive your free starter deck and cyberdeck port after whitelisting and being approved.
