I, tiqdreng, pledge to complete the Copper Badge for this Summer Camp of 2023. This is the lowest badge that I will complete, if fortune shines upon me it will not be the only badge that I end up with. July is always a busy month for me and between work and family... this year is no different.

Power

To the Soi̯ngan, there was previously no concept of power. The varied peoples that lived on Nei̯ Huyoishor had put aside the thirst for power in return for a stable planet. One where wars were not known, greed and deceit were but no one went to war over anything. That is what the law is for.   It wasn't until Tra'Mak, a simple yet brilliant stone mason, stumbled upon the secret of the ancient runic language of the Soi̯ngan that power was brought first and foremost into the minds of everyone on the planet. While this took years to spread to the corners of Nei̯ Huyoishor, it wasn't long until everyone knew of the discovery and every city sent someone to represent them in their bid to learn the runic knowledge.   There was a long period in this time of history where Tra'Mak, among many others, felt that his discovery was going to destroy the Soi̯ngan and render the planet extinct of their presence.
  • What happened during the time that the runes were first brought back from obscurity?
  • Where did the world head after living in peace for milennia?
  • Did the Soi̯ngan people find a way back to peace?
  • Is the runic power something that is inherent to all beings on the planet, or only a select few?
  • Many questions are unanswered as the world is still learning how to survive amongst those who are learning how to control this new ability and the capabilities that it brings forth in their existence.

    Frontiers

    The world of Nei̯ Huyoishor:
    Nnei̯ Huyoishor - World
The frontier... What is that in the world of the Soi̯ngan?
  • Is it as simple as different geographical regions in Nei̯ Huyoishor?
  • Is it the arrival of the power of the runes as they have been re-discovered?
  • Is the frontier something else entirely for the Soi̯ngan people?
  • With runes now holding a place of extreme power in the life of the Soi̯ngan, there are several groups that have come into existence. Of these groups, there are two that hold the most sway with the people.
  • Ledai̯ Vamor Sy /ˈlɛdaɪ̯ vɑˈmɔː siː/
  • Mo Pur Zaay /moˈʊ pɜː ˈzæaɪ/
  • These two groups are what all of the groups that have manifested into being ultimately condense into. One is for peace, the Ledai̯ Vamor Sy or The Peaceful People, and the other is its antithesis, Mo Pur Zaay or Those Who Fight.   It is the Mo Pur Zaay that have the greatest chance to destroy the Soi̯ngan people. Anytime there is anyone whom is willing to fight rather than talk about the issues at hand, the greater the risk of complete disaster falling upon everyone, even the innocents. This is what the Ledai̯ Vamor Sy are trying to avoid. They are wanting a peaceful resolution where no one is hurt by the outcome.   This does *not* mean that the Ledai̯ Vamor Sy will willingly stand aside and allow the Mo Pur Zaay achieve their goals. To the Ledai̯ Vamor Sy, the Mo Pur Zaay are after only one thing... to enslave everyone who is not able to wield the runes to a life of servitude.

    Relics

While relics may exist, none are known about in the current timeline. What has caused relics to not be found?   Possibilities:
  • The ancient Soi̯ngan did not want their knowledge to be found
  • In order to preserve their knowledge, the ancient Soi̯ngan used the power of the runes to store their knowledge somewhere that only another Runic Lord would be able to reach
  • The entire knowledge of the ancient Soi̯ngan is lost for all times. This was the inevitable outcome as they wielded more and more power from the runes and caused such destruction that it not only took their knowledge but every Runic Lord as well!
  • Delving into the past will be an adventure in and of itself. Excavating the past always reveals interesting and new knowledge... but what is that knowledge and how will it be used?   The History of the Runes

    Communication

For the Soi̯ngan, communication has always been about in person interactions. There are some remote communication methods, but these are not preferred if any of the people involved are able to travel to talk in real time. It isn't that the other methods are not reliable, it is just the personal interaction that all Soi̯ngan prefer and miss when using the other methods.   This has, of course, changed when more and more people were found to be able to use the runes. Once the runes were more widely used, and the differing groups/factions started appearing... more and more the use of remote communication items and eventually a secretive codex for encrypting the messages began to appear. This has made each of the groups begin to attempt breaking the other groups codex/cyphers.
  • Why is this so important?
  • Who is responsible for deciphering the other groups communications?
  • As the founder of the newly revived rune usage, how does Tra'Mak view the changes to his discovery?
  • Is Tra'Mak even alive for the chance to be offended or supportive?
  • How to use the Soi̯ngan language: The Language of Soi̯ngan   The alphabet in runes:

    Copper Power

    8 Prompts
    2 Wild Card Prompts
    Theme Description
The first theme (and the copper prompts wave) is all about POWER, in all its different manifestations—physical power, political power, and more! For inspiration, we have a guide to creating power dynamics in worldbuilding. Here are some additional questions you can think about this week to prepare for the first prompt wave:   Which are the powerful organizations within your world setting? Who are the powerful individuals? What kinds of power do they wield and what are their weaknesses and needs?   Write a paragraph or two about power in your world setting in your pledge document. You can look back at it for inspiration during July to get you inspired!

    Silver Frontier

    8 Prompts
    2 Wild Card Prompts
    Theme Description
The second theme, for the silver prompts wave, is Frontier! Frontiers are boundaries between things, borders—but the word also has a connection to the edge of the “known world”. Frontiers are worldbuilding gold, so we’ve put together a deep dive about using frontiers in worldbuilding! Here are some questions you can use to get started:   Where are the frontiers in your worldsetting? And why would anyone want to go there?! What about metaphorical frontiers, like the “frontier of medicine” or space, the “final frontier”?   Write a paragraph or two about frontiers in your setting in your pledge document, considering these questions and the advice in the blog post. Use it for inspiration during July!

    Gold Relics

    8 Prompts
    2 Wild Card Prompts
    Theme Description
Relics are the remnants of past ages, and they’re a great tool to show your world’s history, as well as cultural values, in the present. After all, if something has been preserved throughout history, it means people consider it to be important! We wrote a blog post about relics and history in worldbuilding so you can get some inspiration for this theme. Here’s a couple of questions you can use to get started too:   What aspects of the past are revered today in your world setting? Which peoples are remembered? And which are forgotten, and why?   Write a paragraph or two about relics and history in your world in your pledge document, and use it as reference during July!

    Diamond Communication

    8 Prompts
    2 Wild Card Prompts
    Theme Description
Communication is an essential tool for societies, and it includes way more than just language! And as worldbuilders and storytellers, communication systems and the flow of information can be a great tool for showing the mood and themes of your world, and creating great plot points. Check out our worldbuilding communication blog post, and use these questions to get started:   How do people and organizations from different backgrounds or cultures communicate with each other? How does communication happen over short and long distances? Who in your setting communicates secretly or carefully, and how?   Write a paragraph or two about these questions in your pledge document and use it as a starting point during July!
