Rasnes Betha (Raz-nes Beh-tha)

The new home of the Core Senate post-Collapse

" Nobody wanted the Senate here but the rich bastards just shoved themselves down our throats. All 'cause Betha had the means to make it through what they did. If I had any say, I'd have let the bastards rot on New Terra.

- Johne Waston
The fourth planet terraformed in the system and the one that became the most fruitful as, for quite some time, it was populated by a largely agrarian society with only a bare handful of big cities scattered across its surface. It was and still is the largest supplier of food in the system as well as to others in the Cluster.   When The Great Collapse happened, the then central government of the Cluster made the decision to move its base to the planet because - without the large amounts of working technology they had once had - it was one of the few that could readily supply a population still. They rebuilt the galaxy from there but given that they decided to cripple the entire Cluster (even though the decision had saved the system from potentially being utterly overrun by Baen Arleth's followers), it was eventually decided by several systems to withdraw their representatives from the Core Senate. Very few planets within the systems fought to keep their representatives in the Senate after the rest of their system withdrew their support but a few did. Several representatives refused to step down and were summarily banned from their home systems, as well as some of their families.   The The Core Senate is still active on the planet but the entirety of the Cluster is no longer ruled by them.

Geography

While there are a few large cities on the planet, the majority of it is made up of farmers fields and carefully maintained forests.   By the time that Rasnes Betha was terraformed and settled, it was common practice to put rules into the planetary laws to control city construction. This was done hoping to keep them from having the problems already becoming evident on New Terra in the early years of the Age of Foundations.   While Lirrbebhionn was originally the most fertile planet in the system, its smaller size allowed the much large Rasnes Betha to easily outclass it. It quickly became the largest supplier of food in the galaxy before the Collapse and remained so after.

Flora & Fauna

Having no natural flora or fauna, Rasnes Betha was supplied with seedlings that were a mix of from Old Terran supplies and some from New Terra. Its wild flora eventually became a combination of the two sources.   While most of the fauna on the planet are farm animals, there is a population of smaller animals such as cats and dogs. There are almost many wild animals such as rabbits, weasels, fish, and every flowering insect that could be found at the time. The planet also has a large bird population, including several species that were originally native to New Terra. Conservationists worked hard to reestablish several endangered species on suitable planets and Rasnes Betha is the one that the majority of the avian species conformed to best.

Natural Resources

The whole of Rasnes Betha's natural resources relies on its fertile soil. Because of this, farmers have to follow strict guidelines in order to keep their fields from yielding poor crops or going fallow. These rules are held in place by the Bethan Agricultural Corp.

Tourism

Before the arrival of the Core Senate on the planet post-Collapse, Rasnes Betha had zero tourism. Very few off worlders wanted to visit the planet only known for the food it supplied to the other planets. The exception was conservationists or rare bird watchers but those were few and far between.   After the Collapse, when the Senate took up residence in Peragine, all of that changed. Although it is nothing like Tiforn's tourist traffic, the planet receives far more than its original inhabitants want. For a largely still simple agrarian society, the Senate movers and shakers are a wholly foreign concept and their hanger-ons are worse.
