Morn is home to numerous stories, Deities, and religions. Most societies worship the same gods but often depict and interpret them very differently. The most notable difference in pantheons is between the warm-blooded races (Pellenic), such as humans, elves, and dwarves, and the Draconic races (Skallic) such as Dragonborn, Kobolds, and Saurids.
Two Religions
Religions in Morn can broadly be classified into two groups. Pellinism includes the religions followed largely by warm-blooded races and its sub-categories are referred to as Pellenic. Skallinism includes the religions followed largely by the cold-blooded races and its sub-categories are referred to as Skallic. In Skallinism, the gods are referred to as the Skal (meaning divine in Draconic). The gods worshipped in these two pantheons are similar. The most important difference is that Pellinism sees Mortus in a favourable light as the creator of life on Morn, while Skallinism sees Mortus (or Morduggan) as a deceitful god that tricked the Creator Gods into making their creations mortal and weak.
In the beginning, Mortus wanted to create the world. They got some of the other gods to help. These became the Creator Gods. During the creation process, gods that Mortus hadn’t invited started to intervene. They became the Interloper Gods.
The gods’ first attempt at creation resulted in the four primordial titans. They were too huge and powerful and proved destructive to the world. The gods then created four planes for them and imprisoned them there. The power of each titan spread throughout their planes, morphing them into the four elemental planes.
From then on, only Mortus would be in charge of creating life. They created the species of Morn that are alive today.
At some point, the Interloper Gods intervened with creation, giving the species of Morn traits that Mortus had not intended. The Creator Gods and Interloper Gods fought and eventually the Interloper Gods killed Mortus. Mortus' death created the concept of mortality and made the people of Morn mortal.
The Draconic pantheon's interpretation of Mortus, Morduggan, is the chief Interloper God. Bahamut was the lead Creator God. In the beginning, the creator gods, led by Bahamut, created the four original dragons. The four original dragons were the perfect creations of the gods.
The Interloper Gods, led by Morduggan, saw the majesty of the mighty dragons and became jealous. Morduggan decieved Bahamut by telling him that the four dragons were corrupted and needed to become mortal. Through this deception, Morduggan and the Interloper Gods stole immortality from the Four Dragons, allowing them to and their descendants to die and thus enabling the interloper gods to devour their souls.
Bahamut also allowed Morduggan to create his own races on Morn. Morduggan created people with small forms, warm blood, and soft skin.
Similar to the warm-blooded creation story, the Draconic creation story tells of a war between the Creator Gods and the Interloper Gods brought about by the Creator Gods learning of Morduggan's deception. Bahamut killed Morduggan as punishment. Bahamut realised that the interloper gods were hungry for the souls of the original four dragons, so he created new realms for their original creations and sent them to live there so that their souls would be safe from the interloper gods. The four realms became shaped by the immense power of the original dragons, morphing them into the elemental planes.
