Creation

The creation myths of Morn vary between different cultures and ethnicities. The largest divergence in mythology is between the warm-blooded and cold-blooded races, which place Mortus (or Morduggan) in very different roles.

Warm-blooded Creation Story

The creation myths shared by the warm-blooded races of Morn are broadly similar. While there is some variation between the stories told by elves, humans, dwarves, and Tabaxi, the overall creation story of each is very similar and all depict Mortus as the primary creator god.

Early Creation

In the beginning, Mortus wanted to create the world. They got some of the other gods to help. These became the Creator Gods. During the creation process, gods that Mortus hadn’t invited started to intervene. They became the Interloper Gods.   The gods’ first attempt at creation resulted in the four primordial titans. They were too huge and powerful and proved destructive to the world. Mortus wanted them gone because the world was not suitable for any other life while they were around. So the gods tried to kill them, but they fought back. The gods then created four planes for them and imprisoned them there. The power of each titan spread throughout their planes, morphing them into the four elemental planes.   After that fiasco, the gods agreed to leave only Mortus in charge of creating life.

War Between the Gods

When the Interloper Gods were intervening in creation, the Creator Gods fought them. In the fight, Mieli was split into two, becoming Silvanus and his sister Morrigan.   As the Creator Gods and Interloper Gods fought, they influenced the creation of the world. The Interloper Gods eventually killed Mortus, creating the concept of death and making it possible for all the life they created to die. Then the rest of the Creator Gods defeated them.   After death was possible, the Creator Gods realised that the Interloper Gods were trying to harvest mortal souls. So the Creator Gods got together and created The Reaper, a mortal turned into a demigod who would go to each person’s death and make sure their soul is sent to the correct god. The Reaper is depicted as a humanoid figure in a black cloak covering their face, their race unclear, carrying a huge greatsword which is swung to separate the soul from the body.

Draconic Creation Story

According to Draconic legends of creation, Mortus (referred to as Morduggan) was an interloper god rather than the primary creator god. Creation was led by Bahamut with the other creator gods, beginning with the creation of Morn and then of the dragons.

Early Creation

In the beginning of Morn, the creator gods, led by Bahamut, created the four original dragons. The four original dragons were the perfect creations of the gods, made in their image and forming the perfect creatures.   The interloper gods, led by Morduggan, saw the majesty of Morn and its mighty dragons and became jealous. Morduggan decieved Bahamut by telling him that the four dragons were corrupted by the interloper gods. Bahamut, believing that the four dragons could not be saved, allowed Morduggan to corrupt them. The interloper gods, led by Morduggan, stole immortality from the Four Dragons, allowing them to and their descendants to die and thus enabling the interloper gods to devour their mighty souls.   Bahamut also allowed Morduggan to create his own races on Morn. Morduggan was not as skilled at creation as the creator gods, so his creations had small forms, warm blood, and soft skin. They were no match for the might and grace of the dragons and their souls would not provide much sustenance, so Morduggan decided to create them in large numbers so that they might overpower the dragons.

War Between the Gods

The four dragons passed their corruptions on to their descendants. Through his deception, Morduggan had stolen the immortality of all dragons. Realising what had happened, Bahamut and his fellow creator gods fought Morduggan and the other interloper gods.   As punishment, Morduggan was killed. However, before he was killed Morduggan granted his divinity to one of his warm-blooded creations, turning him into the demigod known as The Reaper. By creating The Reaper, Morduggan ensured that the people of Morn would keep on dying and that their souls could continue to be eaten by the interloper gods. This would allow them to grow in power and potentially bring Adapa back to life.   Bahamut and the creator gods realised that the interloper gods were hungry not just for the souls of the people of Morn, but especially for the souls of the original four dragons. They created new realms for their original creations and sent them to live there so that their souls would be safe from the interloper gods. The four realms became shaped by the immense power of the original dragons, morphing them into the elemental planes.

Origins of cold-blooded races

Dragons continued to grow weaker with each generation as they descended further from immortality. Eventually, some dragons began hatching with a diminutive humanoid form, creating the first Dragonborn. From the dung of the dragons rose Kobolds and Sarcons.
