The ordinary people of Morn do not have a detailed understanding of the
Cosmology of the planes or the origins of Morn. They largely understand that Morn sits between the Upper Planes and the Lower Planes. The Upper Planes are known to be the realms of the Creator Gods and considered to be heavenly places, while the Lower Planes are known to be torturous realms for the souls of the damned.
Warm-blooded cultures generally believe that the realms of the Creator Gods are their rewards for living good lives. Draconians see the Creator Gods more akin to their ancestors, the creators of the first dragons, and see an afterlife in the Upper Planes as being reunited with their family. Both warm-blooded cultures and Draconians generally believe that the Interloper Gods desire the souls of mortals for some form of consumption; warm-blooded cultures believe they need the souls of the damned to grant themselves greater power, while the Draconian cultures view the Interloper Gods as literally being hungry and eating their souls.
Souls After Death
Different cultures have different beliefs and customs around what happens to the souls of the dead, but the mainstream common belief is that people who worship the Creator Gods and lead good lives according to the teachings of their temples will go to the realms of their primary god after their death.
The Reaper
The Reaper is seen as the ultimate judge of souls. This demigod is one of the few
Deities of Morn that is consistently recognised across all cultures, even if not always worshipped. This is due to the fact that the Reaper is unusually visible to mortals. Clerics, paladins, and others trained in divine matters are able to see the Reaper, who is invisible to most mortals. When death occurs, the Reaper always appears to sever the soul of the recently departed from their mortal bodies. The souls are then taken by the Reaper for judgement. For this reason, the appearance of the Reaper is seen as an ill omen. It only appears when it is expecting somebody to die.
It is generally believed that the Reaper keeps some sort of ledger that keeps track of the morality of each mortal. Most people believe that the Reaper will send their souls to the divine realm of their chosen god if they have lead good lives. The Reaper sends the souls of evildoers to one of the Lower Planes. What happens to souls in the Lower Planes is interpreted differently across cultures; for example, Carenthian temples teach that souls in the lower planes are tortured for eternity, while Draconian priests teach that souls sent there are eaten by the Interloper gods.
In the Draconian cultures, the Reaper is depicted as a hostile entity created by
Morduggan . The Reaper's role is to carry on Morduggan's desire for dragons and their descendants to be mortal so that their souls can be eaten. Draconians see death as an injustice and the Reaper as a terrible, if unavoidable, foe.
