Refers to anyone from the Verous Islands, homeland of the Feroxian Empire

Naming Traditions

Family names

The people of this land tend to borrow from the following:   Ferox - Pre-Hellenistic Greece and Pre-Imperial Rome   Argent - Late 1800's Russian and Medieval Slavic   Arumo - Tokugawa Japanese and Pre-Raj Indian   Cuprus - Ottoman Sultinate Arabic and Medieval Berber     While this is the idea I tend to draw from, a better time period for each is to imagine these cultures converging at the "Renaissance" of their respective periods. The idea is that each of these cultures are currently undergoing a renaissance period in the game, and thus it would make sense for any aesthetics to borrow from any real world renaissance period. Therefore, if a culture has multiple renaissance periods, it makes sense to draw from any of them.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The most widely spoken language is Feroxian, due to Alaric Ron Zhen's army using it as a means of communication during the liberation of the islands from the Keepers Arcane.   After that, dialects of Aurumo, Argenti, and Cupri are not uncommon, but often used more socially.

Culture and cultural heritage

Many people from Verous hail from one of four regions. Their cultural legacy is often exemplified by the Four Heroes of the Divine Quartet. While there are some connections to the people's Verousian roots or tribal connections, these are considered antiquated at best or not practiced at all.

Shared customary codes and values

People from Verous have a long history of turmoil and oppression in their past. As such, the idea of overcoming past issues and improvement is rife within society. Since the founding of the empire, however, this ideal has shifted into people improving themselves for the betterment of the whole. It is common to find many improvements or gains to become co-opted with serving the empire as a whole.

Common Etiquette rules

In Ferox people must always be presentable. In public a person is their best self at all times, and thus not prone to weakness or slovenly behavior. While some levels of mess or untidiness is expected of some jobs, one must always be presenting their best self to others when able.

Art & Architecture

Most art is done in an avant-garde style, as the empire laudes the best of the best. For a while realism was the norm, but now taking it to more fantastic heights is the more appreciated art form.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The Feodiad is a Springtime tournament meant to test the skill and prowess of the empire's greatest. Feats of strength, skill, knowledge, and prestige are held at the Dagian Amphitheater in a week long event. In order to participate, one must be able to pay the entrance fee and be sponsored by someone of suitable reputation. Winners often receive loads of prestige and monetary compensation.   Founding Day functions as a heavily patriotic holiday, with celebrations in the capitol and across the nation. During this month the Emperor makes a full round across the empire, accompanied by their most loyal subjects.   The Ara'Arvali a time of plenty due to the harvest, and a time of wonder. Often more popular among the working class, people gather across great distances to celebrate a bountiful harvest, companionship, and stories, all while paying homage to the Dusk Mage's teachings of outgrowing superstitions. Monasteries and Nobles tend to open up their abodes to the working class to share ideas, knowledge, and stories for the betterment of all.    The Oraclade is a time of giving during the winter. Based on the history of Iselle's Courtship of Alaric Ron Zhen, people are expected to decorate their houses with seasonal plants and colors while giving gifts in secret to those they care about most.

Common Taboos

Worship of any deity not of the Divine Quartet is declared heresy and is often punishable by imprisonment or exile.
