Session 50

The Party began searching the bodies, finding Sovereign's Shadow signet rings, a few pieces of silver, and some weapons. They gathered up what they could and darted into an alleyway south of The Godly Mice Inn and headed towards The Fool's headquarters. The group darted in and out of alleyways and main streets, dodging checkpoints and patrols.    The Party arrived at an ordinary looking one floor residence with a blue-tiled roof about two and a half blocks south of the tavern. Berga Dustbrook led them around to the front of the house and knocked on the door in a staggered, rhythmic pattern. Meanwhile, Vigwalin realized he had something to handle back at the inn, so he headed back. Bloodbane, standing nearest the door behind Berga, listened closely as the footfalls drew nearer. The door swung open and standing there was Jencerys Paren. She ushered in the Party as quickly as they could fit through the entrance. She asked what they were doing back and mentioned that she had seen their likenesses and names on posters throughout the town. She informed the group that she had sources that were telling her that The Sovereign's Shadow had apparently seized control of Silverward Keep and set up checkpoints. They were rounding up nobles and members of The Fool for execution. The rest were being kept in the dungeon. The group collectively made the decision to attempt to rescue them and Jencerys would accompany them while Berga remained behind.   Jencerys confirmed with Typhon that he knew of a way in and he pulled out his map of the Silverward sewers that he purchased a while ago. They looked it over and decided that they would go for it that evening. The lot of them took a long rest, gathering their strength for the coming fight.   That evening, the group headed out to the nearest sewer entrance. Bloodbane lifted the circular entrance and the group splashed down into the knee deep brown and green liquid. Typhon, using his shape water spell, split the river of sewage down the center and up along the walls leaving a foul smelling sludge and small skeletons and other objects on the ground. The Party made their way through the putrid substance on the ground and about 20 minutes later they arrived at the entrance to the keep. Except this time, the guards had placed a lock on the grate.   Bloodbane attempted to lift it but to no avail. Typhon lifted it up and quickly cast misty step, sending himself into the parapet above. He looked around and saw no one. He attempted to pick the lock with a lockpick made of ice, but it snapped in the process. He asked the Party to step back and he froze it using ray of frost. They lifted the sewer cover and the group poured out as quietly as they could. Sir Didymus took a quick peak around to survey their surroundings; he managed to count at least three black-clad guards in the courtyard. The castle keep lay just across from the parapet. He quickly cast pass without trace on the Party and they stealthily made their way across to the keep.   They opened the door and standing there were two Sovereign's Shadow guards and none other than Lady Joanna Byrne. A look of horror crept over the noble's face as she instantly recognized them. She ran to the side and ducked into a room just as Typhon let a fireball loose on the guards. A massive explosion rocked the keep, dealing tremendous damage to one of the guards while the other managed to jump out of the way of the brunt of it. The enclosed space only served to amplify the concussive force and Typhon, Sir Didymus, and Bloodbane each took some minor bludgeoning damage. Bloodbane and Sir Didymus launched into attacks against the guards, quickly dispatching one of them and surrounding the other. A few seconds into the battle, two guards came running up from downstairs to investigate the commotion with their swords drawn. It would seem that Typhon's fireball drew more attention than they would've liked...
