Imperial Kingdom of Vermilius

"The oldest of the Tri-Kingdoms, the Imperial Kingdom of Vermilius has stood in the face of extreme calamity for the nine thousand years that the House of Charmant has laid claim to power. Famine, war, blizzard, and plague - Vermilius has survived them all."

Assets

Though Vermilius was once exorbitantly wealthy - boasting high quality of life for all of its citizens within federally-recognized settlements - their assets have been taken from the people and given to the ruling class in the last millennium. The Supreme Monarch - Léon Charmant - has access to more money than the typical person can comprehend. However, he refuses to reinvest it into the infrastructure of his nation, leaving all but the wealthiest areas of major cities to crumble under their own weight.

History

The oldest of the Tri-Kingdoms, the Imperial Kingdom of Vermilius was originally the unifying political body holding dominion over the entire continent of Marvelo. In 6121 BM, the then-sovereign Duke Heinrich Charmant of the Noble House of Charmant realized his desire for both homogeneity and unity amongst Marvellan lands, declaring the entire continent "one".   Total continental unification lasted approximately three millennia, primarily due to the decentralized nature of the ruling power. The Kingdom mostly kept to itself during this period (an era called the Cinnabar Period) and made very little strides to approach on indigenous territories beyond the Markéd Mountain Range. Sure, there were a few places of Vermilian interference south of the mountains (mainly in what would become the two primary Human cities following the Mountain Schism), but they otherwise did little to bother natives of southern Marvelo.   In 9964 BM, the Supreme Monarch of Vermilius (a man named Tobias Charmant) would seek to expand Vermilisian influences and culture south beyond the Markéd Mountains. From the Vermilisian stronghold of Vauxvern, he deployed several military battalions to seize control of native land in what the Vermilisians called "the Sutherlands". The citizens of Vauxvern and Zanclea grew extremely distressed at this prospect, and incited the Mountain Schism - a revolution campaign that drew unprepared Vermilisian soldiers into the mountains and slaughtered them.   From that point on, the Imperial Kingdom of Vermilius has been pushed to control only lands north of the Markéd Mountain Range. All attempts at controlling the mountain passes themselves or land south of the range have been met with equal hostility from Azuria and Flaviae in equal measure, and an uneasy treaty called the Triumvirate Resolution was put into place in OM 1 to prevent any further measures of expansion.   In the late "Before Monarchy" period, Vermilius made several attempts to push their Dwarven and Orcish populations out of their borders and into the Markéd Mountains or northern Flaviae. This campaign was met with extreme pushback from the Azurian and Flavian governments, both of whom decried these efforts. Vanya Gallant - a rural Vermilisian with harsh things to say about her own kingdom - ended up founding the city-state of Gallant to support displaced peoples.   In the early "Of Monarchy" period, Vermilius launched into several small-scale wars with the kingdoms of Azuria and Flaviae. After suddenly losing resources and power with the passing of the Triumvirate Resolution, they lost many of these conflicts handily. The Supreme Monarch, at that point, realized that it would be unwise to continue pushing the Imperial Kingdom to the forefront. Thus, they decided to focus on growing their own economy and pushing for Vermilisian nationalism without directly harming any of the other present kingdoms.

Demography and Population

The Imperial Kingdom's demographics are as follows:
  • 75% Human
  • 17% Dwarf
  • 8% Orc
With the exception of Silvercairn (which has a large proportion of dwarven-diasporic individuals), all Vermilisian settlements are extremely homogenous. Rural Vermilisians in particular are wary of outsiders, especially if they're of a different race than their town's main population.

Foreign Relations

Due to millennia of imperial control over both the Azuria and Flavian landmasses, the Imperial Kingdom of Vermilius has extremely strained relationships with the other two members of the Tri-Kingdoms.

Non-aggression treaty

Vermilius and Flaviae have always had a slightly strained relationship, but that was more due to Vermilius' acts of violence when Flaviae was still a part of the Sovereign Kingdom of Azuria.

Non-aggression treaty

In thanks to the Triumvirate Resolution of 1 OM, Azuria and Vermilius no longer participate in direct conflict with one another. However, their relationship is extraordinarily tense from wars and imperialism several thousand years before, where the aftereffects still linger.
