Petrichor Mangrove (peh-tri-core man-grohv)

"Folks tend to ignore the beauty in places they consider 'lesser', whether it's due to the environment or because they simply don't like the people who live there. I'd argue that the greatest beauty can be found in these places, because there's no façade pretending that its something that it isn't. Take my home of the Petrichor Mangrove - a place where the Fathomless meets Trøglav's grand creation. Humans and Elves have inundated travel guides for centuries saying not to go here unless they wanna get mauled by an Orc or find themselves lost in the winding rivers... it's ignorance, pure and simple."   -excerpt from an interview with Xaagt the Eloquent, a famous Orcish rights activist who gained prominence in the last decade

Geography

The Petrichor Mangrove is a subsection of the greater Vermilisian Swamp, the biome that encompasses the southeastern quarter of the Vermilius Landmass. It consists of the entire coastline (from the border where Vermilius meets the Markéd Mountain Range to the south up until the Onoling Moor begins), extending inland for hundreds of miles.   Petrichor comes from the Silvyrian words Petrie (rain) and Chora (scent), referring to the scent that comes with precipitation. The Mangrove is a specific species of tree that grows in saline/brackish water, which makes up the majority of the coast.   The Mangrove is characterized by dense foliage that shrouds many tributaries that feed to the Fathomless, with occasionally interspersed grasslands suitable for humanoid habitation. Marvellan Orcs have called the Mangrove their homeland for nearly fourteen centuries at this point, and were born of Trøglav's will to have a culture that truly respected the earth and its natural beauty.

Ecosystem

The Petrichor Mangrove is the most biologically diverse ecosystem in Marvelo, simply due to the rich plant life found within that can sustain many creatures and organisms.   Many fish, birds, mammals, and other creatures call the Petrichor Mangrove their home. They subsist on algae, mangrove trees, and extraordinary peat deposits.

Climate

The Petrichor Mangrove is a productive wetland within a coastal intertidal zone, and is the only place within the Vermilius Landmass that never dips below freezing temperatures.
