Gallant (guhl-launt)

Demographics

The most diverse city on the continent, Gallant is one of the very rare settlements where humans, elves, and dwarves coexist peacefully without the tension found in the Tri-Kingdoms.
  • 82% Human - about 75% of these individuals are native Gallatians, and the other 25% consists of Azurian nationals.
  • 10% Elven - primarily migrants from western Flaviae.
  • 8% Dwarven - refugees from the mountains of central Vermilius.

Government

Gallant is divided into ten parishes for the sake of administrative purposes, each of whom report to the Lady Mayor. These serve as the building blocks of local government - a highly community-based structure where each member of the parishes feels as if they have a voice in how their city-state is run.   The city-state's system of taxation is a flat percentage of income - 10% of your annual earnings per year.

Industry & Trade

Gallant, as a hub in the center of the continent, is considered a 'neutral party' when dealing with the politics of the Tri-Kingdoms. Thus, the vast majority of trade is done within the city-state rather than between individual members of the Tri-Kingdoms.   As Gallant's soil is inappropriate for farmland, the vast majority of its crops and meat is imported from southern Vermilius and northern Azuria.

Infrastructure

As Gallant was constructed amidst the Markéd Mountain Range, the city has had to build an elaborate series of roads and transportation to ensure that citizens can get around easily and safely. Thus, the primary mode of transportation is the Elemental Train - a device powered by harnessing Elemental Arcana to propel passengers. An extensive railway travels between every major point within the city, a network of winding rails that go above and below ground.

Assets

In 15956 BM - while the Tri-Kingdoms were simply noble houses squabbling over territory and the first ground had been broken to create the city of Gallant - the city's founder Vanya Gallant momentarily left her people to seek out an object called the Unity Chalice. The Chalice was described as the artifact to one day unite the fragmented territories into one, and Vanya (in fear of one house overtaking the continent) decided to hide the artifact away in the bowels of Gallant's deepest, most guarded dungeon.

Climate

Gallant has a subtropical highland climate, meaning high humidity and a rather temperate year (generally extending from just above freezing to warm but not stifling). However, it gets very little direct precipitation - this water generally appears in the form of fog or mists.
