Sanyak Sea

A sandy surface reaching as far as the eye can see. Not water, but dunes of sand rise and fall, far more slowly then water and silently. All you can hear is the hissing sound of sand. Towers, build on a bubble of vacuum stand tall and unwavering. The coast, formed by natural walls of stone block the sand dunes. larger tretches are sometimes structural improved with walls of marbled stone. The low humming sound of the slow moving sand against the wall is mesmerizing.
The seas are travelled by Airfoil Flairboats, vehicles that are technological marvels and designed to hover above the surface, 'floating' on a air cushion.
There are (large) animals moving through the sand, living, prospering and thriving in the constant moving sands. The animals move at high speed through the sand and can move through the sand at incredible speeds. Many researchers have tried to understand why and how these creatures can travel through the sand. The main consensus is that they can take sand in, and propell it to move through it. They cannot move through solid objects if the object is large enough. If the object isn't hard enough they chip parts off the solid rock and in time it will be turned in to gravel and end up as sand. The only way to prevent this form of decay is to make thin stone walls, forming a hollow space and remove all air. Somehow this is a barrier they will not pass. To build towers or platforms is difficult and expensive. The sea, delivers many resources.
The Magistrarium believes that the sea of sands is the inverted connection to the Durga Planes with the Plane Rift as some kind of entry point., making it a highly interesting area for reseach.

Geography

A large area on the largest continent that is always hot. The Durga Planes are connected, but no one has been able to deliver scientific proof.

Ecosystem

The desert is a large trecherous space, made up of sand. The Sea of Sand has dunes that seem to be moving around ('walking dunes'). For unknown reasons the sand dunes do not cross the boundaries of the desert, but snadsorms are capable of dusting a city, wreaking havoc and sometimes death.

Ecosystem Cycles

the Sea of Sands changes in temperature and humidity when seasons change. Although it is always hot during daytime it can be freezing cold in the night times. Every red moon the cycle changes for a short period of time, making the daytime extreme freezing cold and the night time blazing warm, (especially the wind, that is dry and void of all humidity) Most animals adapt by going into hibernation. some birds fly to the south or to the northern warmer regions.

Localized Phenomena

there is a plane rift. no one ever has been able to get close to it. The rift rips everything from this world (or dimension) apart when they come too close. Several people touched by the rift can be found as sculpture on a small rockformation (sand-island) called (cahtun rock) that marks the edge of the rift's influential sphere. (the influence grows and shrinks with regualr interfalls, probably related to the location of the planet in relation to the planetary system).

Fauna & Flora

The sea is inhabited with small creatures, extrmely sturdy plantlife, undergound animals. tunnelers and perhaps most interesting biengs from another dimension swimming though the sand and rocks like it is water.
most inhabitants are capable of surviving on their own.

Natural Resources

The dimensional creatures are untouchable, but the spitworms are a different story. they only live in the desert, the tunnels they create are sources of materials used in all kinds of processes.

History

The lands here used to be green and vertile, but then the great collide happend several thousends of years ago. The land eroded into the desert and the dimensional rift opened. During the years that followd several cities where destroyed or lost in the sands. Larger animals have been seen 'swimming' thought the sands like it was water. Alchemages have deduced that our material plane is like water to them. After many years of research and experimentation it was proven by the Technomages that these animals, inadvertently demolishing every stone structure build in the sand, cannot pass through vacuum.

Tourism

Some rich people pay to see the dimensional creatures. but since they are not able to catch them with any significant means these tours are rare.
