Magistrarium Organization in Maöbrah | World Anvil

Magistrarium

The magistrarium is a global secret society of the most powerfull minds that practices magic. They are the oldest an probably the most knowledgable order of magic users: wizards, witches, mages and druids. They are influential members of almost all the more important known magical societys in the world. Watching, lecturing and teaching their fellow magi. The secret society controls most (but not all) the more visible schools and institutes around the globe. They are very concerned with several prophecys, but they also know that fate is a fickle thing and not all prophecys can be explained.

Structure

There is a triumverate with three members per school (magical classification). There is always an uneven number to prevent a 50-50 exact vote. Under each triumvirate there are several groups clustered with a elected head of the department. The elections are made with a closed voting system.

Culture

The magistrarium sees it as a task to contain or prevent so called 'wild magic'. They keep track of all major magic points and are scrying their surroundings to detect. They have a extensive library, excellent agents (magical and non-magical) around the globe to inform them. keeping track of magic users and their aspirations is an important part of keeping the world a safe place.

Public Agenda

They have no public agenda as they are highly secretive. Internally it is well known that keeping the balance and taps on fellow magic users is important. (for new recruits or in case of evil an counteraction)

Assets

They have a library and buildings, castles, airships and well trained animals. They have the best magic schools and a excellent training facility for their operatives. Including spies, combatants and armor and weapon specialist. Some of the best gunslingers are in their service.

History

When men started to create kingdoms, several leaders offered their advice to the Kings and rulers. The advice was very self-centered and although it helped a kingdom, it didnt' solve the greater good. The magi could do better and decided to form a more organised guild. Several times they where accused of giving bad advice (the greater picture is not always seen by the more local oriented rulers) and sometimes this resulted in death or removal of the magi. The guilds where more and more seen as a nuisance, not helping the kingdoms / rulers. This forced the magi to reconsider the way they promoted their business and the secret society was created.
