Gapbreak

When constructing the Rail, Crassus’ engineers were forbidden from crossing the plains in the center of the continent. Much of the land the treaty allocated for the Rail was carved with deep canyons and covered in mesas and arid scrub-lands. The engineers carved their path through this rough land. While building the Rail, supply points were needed, and Gapbreak became a central location where supplies could be brought and stored to continue construction. The Rail branches outward from Gapbreak, going to Stone in the north, and to Shoar in the west before continuing north to Ghostwood. As the Rail came into use, it became the central vehicle for trade between the Elph, Humans, Giants and even the Black Bloods in the south. Gapbreak lies just north of the wall, and Black Blood merchants can be found all through out its markets.   The leaders of the Rail Consortium are notoriously corrupt and have used the trade traveling on the Rail to make themselves wealthy and build massive, well adorned estates at the top of the cliffs surrounding the city. The city is built on a deep canyon, the leaders of the city live on the surface in their estates, and homes and business are dug into the rock and built along the canyon walls all the way to the bottom where The Rail cuts through the ancient riverbed. The further from the surface the poorer the condition of the people and the dwellings, and the more prolific the crime. Gapbreak is known for its dangerous and lucrative underworld, as well as it’s corrupt guards. Work can always be found in Gapbreak, not all of it legal.
