Session 14: A Family in Ruins

General Summary

Noxday, 29th Zenith 211 EoL

As the group was getting ready to wake up in the morning, Hotshot and De Mini were nowhere to be seen. However, the flapping of wings could be heard, and a loud thud as Umbrakis landed in front of the mine entrance. She knew the party was there, and she let them know that she brought their companions and that they should join her rather than share their companions' fate. One way or another they would join Umbrakis and worship her as their god. With her speech finished she took to the skies and was gone.   All except Lucky were hiding in the jungle and rushed into the mining village when the dragon was gone, where they found Hotshot and Mini's bodies. They still had all their equipment and it seemed like nothing was taken. They took the bodies back to camp, only to notice that Lucky had disappeared. They looted the bodies before burning them and setting out following Lucky's tracks under Gwenelle's expert guidance.

Mellsday, 1st Shadow 211 EoL

It was a race through the jungle with everyone pushing as hard as they could. After three hard days, the rest of the group caught up with Lucky, who greeted the rest with indifference. He did not ask the others to follow him, and he knew Hotshot's and Mini's fate even without making sure. However, when Shirel handed him Mini's special beer barrel it was hard to keep up the facade.   They arrived at the town walls in the middle of the night. A quirky guard let them into town. When they arrived at the Wolfden they saw two guards stationed in front of the doors. Lucky had met one of the guards previously in Diernum in front of the Inperiur. They came to know, that in their absence the Wolfden had been attacked. Then, suddenly, a loud crack could be heard and the dome was lighting up, as two giant wolf heads, the Wolves of Summer's emblem, appeared in the dome. A lightning strike broke through the dome and hit the exact spot in front of the Wolfden, where Doc disappeared. But rather, than Doc being back, two newcomers appeared on the doorstep. And quite the newcomers they were. They did not seem to have any idea where they were or what they were doing.   While the rest of the group was trying to find out more about those newcomers, Shirel was a little absent-minded. He had a vision of a large wolf den. Two huge wolf-like beasts slowly came out of the den. One was black as night, with red fire and smoke streaming from the mouth. The other was snow-white, piercing blue eyes, and its breath was condensing even though it was not particularly cold. Both were speaking telepathically with Shirel. He was their chosen instrument of vengeance. Wolves had fallen and someone needed to pay. Shirel came back the group was about to enter the Wolfden and leave the newcomers out in the cold.   The inside of the den was still a mess. Tables were turned over and shredded to pieces, dried pools of blood dotted the floor and scratch marks from a huge beast were everywhere. Birdy dragged herself out of the room with the help of a pair of crutches. Her right arm was in a sling. When only Lucky from the old pack came through the door, Birdy realized what it meant. She slumped to the ground as tears started streaming down her face. Lucky picked her up and brought her to her room. While the others waited in the common room, Lucky and Birdy briefed each other about what had happened since they left Adanum. Only a few days after Feyaar's Fang left, Birdy's pack came back from their mission to Nuatana. However, they could not stay for very long as The Ferrium Mining Company came inquiring about the job they had offered to the Fang. It was up to Birdy's pack to take up the tab and investigate the missing miners. As Birdy stayed back to look after the den she was alone when the attack happened. The attackers were human, and they were after Chandara Aleerys. Their affiliations remain unclear, but they left with less men than they came in with. Birdy made sure of that.   Nonetheless, right now Birdy and Lucky are the only ones left. A family of wolves they are not, but they are alive and thus the Wolves of Summer survive, because that is what they do.
