Wolves of Summer Organization in Maelan | World Anvil

Wolves of Summer

The Wolves of Summer are a mercenary organization, which operates mainly in , but is not limited to, the Numian Empire. They follow the tenets of the Twin Wolves of Survival: Survival at all costs, and loyalty to your pack.   They were established during the early days of the empire, when The Church of Aerin was established as the only lawful religion. The Wolves were then meant to be a way of protecting the faith of the Twin Wolves. While the early years were extremely difficult, the Wolves are now an established organization in the empire. They came to an agreement with the authorities. The Wolves can practice their faith, in private.   Over the years, the Wolves have garnered a reliable reputation. They get the job done, and rarely diverge from a contract. However, their own always come first, which, on occasion, has led to issues with a job they were supposed to do.

Structure

The Wolves of Summer adopted a militaristic structure to facilitate their daily activities. Contrary to most militaries, however, disagreeing with a superior or disobeying an order are not seen as an offense. The structure relies on a sense of carmeraderie among its members that makes it clear there are times to follow an order to the letter, and other times where it is optional. The only time members are severely disciplined is when actions are taken to the detriment of the Wolves.

A den is made up of 5 families, and a family is made up of 5 packs, which in turn is made up of 4 to 5 people. Each group has its own quartermaster, who handle all the logistics of keeping the stocks filled up and the equipment ready. The Mortal Blade, the Exarch and the Lycan are the three figureheads of the order.

Public Agenda

The Wolves of Summer do not have a specific agenda, at least not one that is public. They claim their only goal is survival. However, there is a lot of speculation amongst the general public as to their real goal. Some believe that the Wolves are actually part of the Numian military, as they can be working quite closely together from time to time. Others believe that Wolves are just gathering their strength to strike at the empire from within.

Assets

The Wolves of Summer make up a total force of 2000 men. As such they are closer to a small well trained army than a mercenary company. However, they are rarely all together in the same place. There's usually no mercenary jobs that require that kind of man power. The impressive size of the company has given the Wolves of Summer a bit of political influence within the empire, and access to some more exoic and hard to get goods.
