Every morning, like clockwork, I rise at 5am. I give myself no more than five minutes to gather my wits, shake the sleep from my eyes, and then I heat water to rinse my face. After a wash to widen my eyes and wake up my senses, I begin my rigorous exercise routine. Hands reaching to the sky I stretch my back and arms. Arms spread wide to either side of me, I stretch my chest, arms, and shoulders. Hands touching toes I stretch my back, neck, and gluteus. Hands high, arms wide, touching toes, and repeat. Sit ups one hundred, Pushups one hundred, Lunges one hundred and then I finish with a series of Yogic stretches to center my body and calm my mind. It is quite beneficial for one to attune one's mind with one's body. The practice is a foundational pillar of health. The Xhan Calendar
Once my body and mind are fully awakened, I pay attention to hygiene. My teeth are carefully cleaned with a brush and dental paste. I wash my face again, this time with a moisturizing salve that eliminates oils and simultaneously moisturizes my skin. I trim my facial hair with meticulous detail, and then brush out my hair, that of my face and my head. Each having their own grooming brushes of course. I then, with great precision, dress my hair in a traditional Chaigo't men's knot at the center top of my head. I fasten it tightly with my golden Ing family heirloom band. It is not enough to be healthy, one must display health, especially as a promoter of good health. It is important to be an example of the things you recommend upon others.
Now, health is not just tinctures, and potions, and medicines. One of the largest and central pillars of good health... Is FOOD. It is important to provide oneself with a well-rounded meal in the morning. I always eat a balanced diet of proteins and carbohydrates, healthy fats, and oils, and of course just a bit of sugar... mostly for the soul and the mood. I prefer a nice bowl of hot rice with three eggs cracked over, a bit of green onion and a drizzle of soybean sauce. On the side four Shumai dumplings, three baked pork pies, a bowl of rice porridge, and four shinakshilh donuts wrapped in rice noodle. An egg custard tart, and a buttered sugar roll. All consumed in moderation of course, overeating promotes lethargy, and there are not enough hours in the day for lethargy. Remember that food not only fuels the body, but also the mind and, to some degree, the spirit.
Finally, after Body, Hygiene, and Food are taken care of, it is important to address one’s mental health. Before I truly begin the day, before I walk out into the vastness of personal interaction. I take the time to slow everything down and prepare myself for all the stimulus that is sure to come. I brew myself, a cup of Chaigo't floral tea, and allow myself until the bottom of the kettle a moment of peace and stillness. Reflecting my own existence, allowing the warmth of the tea to spread about my body and allow me to be conscious of my own skin and breath. Mind clear, I am ready to face the world.
People often ask, “Aegis, how do you remain so calm and collected? Aegis, how why do you always appear so strong and capable.” Humbly, I reply with the advice I have left here today. Remember the foundational pillars of health, and your life can be as balanced and fulfilling as mine.
