General Summary
Aegis and Lox arrive in mehr'Kuldashta after a long voyage at sea. Aegis complains about the lack of food options on the boat while Lachlan looks forward to being on dry land.
They exit the boat in the mehr'Kuldashta docks and Aegis beelines to a street food vendor, ordering chicken on a stick.. Pondering their next move, Lachlan notices a crow or raven fly overhead and then perch on the corner of a building, near a street leaving the docks. Taking it as a sign, he and Aegis follow.
Meanwhile, in mehr'Kuldashta's North Market, Panabon and Shaelune are looking for something to eat. Shaelune is very concerned that someone is still after them. Moments later, Panabon feels the telltale bump of a pickpocket, but instead of being fleeced of any currency, they find themselves holding an ornamental bowl in their hand.
The cry of, "STOP! THIEF!" echoes in the market, and Panabon looks back to see a market trader rushing towards them. Behind the trader is a market stall with several bowls on display.
Nearby, Perunyia and Rosalia are sharing a mid-afternoon snack when they hear the commotion. Investigating, Perunyia recognizes Panabon and intercedes.
Shaelune is also working to bring the attention away from Panabon, lighting the merchan's stall on fire, but careful not to damage the merchandise. Making good on their escape, Perunyia and Rosalia take Panabon to The Drunken Octopus to see what they are doing in town. Shaelune sends her familiar, Minya, to follow so she can catch up.
At the Drunken Octopus, Perunyia discusses possible work or pitfights with Keedj vi'Mosayo. Shaelune arrives and joins the other three.
Outside, Aegis and Lachlan arrive at the Drunken Octopus. The raven has perched just above the heads of two men in dark clothing speaking in low tones to one another. After noticing them, Lachlan looks back to the raven to see that it is gone. One of the men leaves and the other enters the inn.
When they step inside, the tavern is busy with the early dinner rush. They find an empty table, noticing the man they followed sitting at the bar, nursing a drink and looking intently at the group in the corner. Before they can decide what to do about it, Panabon approaches them. The man at the bar uses this opportunity to slip away without Aegis or Lachlan noticing.
It's Rosalia who notices the man first, sneaking up to their table. She immediately leaps into action, drawing a featherblade from the very air. Seeing that he has been discovered, the man runs to the door, trying to escape. Everyone gives chase in some form or another.
Outside, Rosalia is able to cut the man off by using her ability to Misty Step in front of him. He attacks with his blade, making a shallow cut in Rosalia's side, worse she can feel the blade is poisoned. The feather blade in her hand extends as she wills it into a spear. Perunyia sweeps in, striking heavily into his back before the man is finished off by Panabon's thrown dagger.
Aegis quickly calls on Nipo'ea to cast Spare the Dying and the group quickly grab the man and take him behind the Drunken Octopus to question him. Shaelune recognizes that Aegis has used magic but not how, and her fear is temporarily forgotten, replaced by curiosity, which deepens when he casts Healing Word to bring the man back to consciousness.
Perunyia attempts to question him, but he spits in her face, so she backhands him. She offers Panabon a chance to question him. The man grins at Panabon as they search him and speaks to them in Thieves Cant, stating, "You're dead. Do what you want with me." Taking the man at face value, Panabon goes to stab him in the face, but Aegis casts Command to stop him.
Lox suggests letting him go. The group... agrees... ? However, Lachlan has a plan, which he says in front of the man. The man stands up and walks away, leaving the group wondering what just happened.
