Aethfin Region

Few sights inspire like the blue-green Aethfin swarming across the night sky. Hundreds of billions of shimmering insects feeding on the radiation from Mizar and Alkaid. I almost believe there is no greater sight in this whole system. Granthro has blessed me to be able to share it with you.
Intr'ka Kaa Na'be, High Priest, Assembly of Fire
Covering nearly 27 AMU, the Aethfin Region is named for the giant swarm of nonterrestrial insects that feed on radiation from the two main stars of the Mizar System. Deadly gamma radiation from the smaller star Alkaid and high levels of ultraviolet radiation from Mizar are absorbed by the Aethfin, protecting much of the life that exists elsewhere in the system. The swarm flits across the skies of the five innermost planets of the system, most notable at night as they give off a shimmering blue-green color. This cloud of light fades off towards the outer reaches of the region, but is bright and blocks out a large portion of the stars visible on the Mizar Planets.

Geography

The region consists of five planets and their various moons.

The Mizar Planets

The three planets which are closest to Mizar.
Mizar Altuni
Homeworld of the Altunain, Mizar Altuni is almost desertlike on its surface. Below its rocky exterior though lies a vibrant world of subterranean plants and animals.
Mizar Erus
The second world claimed by the Altunain, Mizar Erus sports a distinctive purple atmosphere during its day.
Mizar Dutera
The furthest out of the Mizar planets, Mizar Dutera is a lush paradise of small landmasses separated by vast amounts of water, which covers nearly 83% of the planets surface.

The Gas Planet

Habos
A magenta colored planet comprised entirely of Pallidium Gas. Collapsing due to over mining by various entities.

The Seat of Power

Tarun
Homeworld of the Tarunan. Comprised of mountainous terrain and a belt of thick jungles across its equator.

Fauna & Flora

Only the Aethfin naturally survives in this region of space, having no known predators and subsisting solely on solar radiation.

History

Argued as the hotbed of life within the Mizar System, the AR is home to two distinct cultures: The large, scaled Altunain, and the smaller, furred Tarunan. Though interplanetary travel was brought to both species separately by the Kaenus Council, they quickly came together to push back against Kaenuan expansion into the AR. Both took up the mantle of peacekeeping, with Altunain diplomacy backed by Tarunan might securing the early Mizar Alliance as a place where all peoples could govern themselves.   Over time the Tarunan homeworld became the seat of the Alliance, a strategic foothold that kept the resource-rich Mizar planets protected from what would prove to be more sinister attempts to gain economic advantages from beyond the Aethfin Region. After nearly three millennia, every intelligent species that lived within the Mizar System found itself with representation on Tarun, and in turn, saw the beauty of the Aethfin. Though conflict had broken out before, the fifteen planets of the system had become a cohesive Alliance, with trade deals and agreements that would carry the system to a bright new future.   Until the planet Habos began to collapse. A smaller gas planet, it's naturally occurring Palladium Gas was able to be refined into a stable and highly efficient fuel source used for interplanetary travel. Pallifuel was a commodity used in almost daily life. Habos' fading, once begun, could not stop. The planet began to shrink and fears of running out of fuel shackled the system. Civil unrest struck, and eventually, the Mizar Alliance fell.   Now, the Aethfin Federation of Republics and the Tarun Interplanetary Defense Corps hold the Aethfin Region, attempting to bring a separated peace to the star system they once co-controlled.
