Altunian Species in Life Under Four Suns | World Anvil

Altunian

Towering over any of the other sentient species of the Mizar System, these scaled beings measure in at an average of 245 cm. Indigenous to the central planet of Mizar Altuni, their bodies are able to absorb massive amounts of thermal energy from the nearby twin stars of Mizar and Alkaid.
They wanted us to be the horrible beasts that kept their slimy polyps safe at home. Instead, we presented our commonalities, our strength of will and purpose, our desire to uphold the cosmic truths of the world. For that, we were granted our place as leaders in the Mizar Alliance.
— Altunian Textbook, circa. 4485
Relying on thermal energy to keep their blood warm, Altunians can usually be found near natural hot springs deep underground on their homeworld or exploring the sun-drenched surface. On other planets or while traveling, they wear specialty Thermal Skin, a tight-fitting undergarment that has thermal energy passed through it. These can be recharged with solar or plasma energy.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The average Altunian possesses long, powerful legs that support their thick, heavy torsos in an upright position. An elongated neck ends in an oblong skull with powerful jaws and wide-spaced eyes.   There are three biological sexes amongst the Altunain.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduction

Due to their unique biology, the Altunian must rely strictly on all three reproductive sexes in order to reproduce. This is usually done via long term communication and planning, as it requires the erun to chemically weaken the outer shell of the deruna's egg pods before the karun can be able to also inseminate the eggs.   After fertilization, the eggs grow in the uterus of the deruna for about three months. The eggs are then laid in the traditional nesting forms, and watched over by all three parents until hatched roughly a year later.

The idea of three reproductive sexes sounds interesting. I think you could probably expand on that in the anatomy section, to describe them a bit before you drop that idea in the reproduction section. :)
