Libertas

Libertas was a goddess. Now, she is our home. When Tokyo fell from the sky at the end of her long journey, she found rest in the arms of Liberty.
Libertas is the fourth planet around the star Bacchus. A large, icy world, with the gas giant Terminus in close proximity, it has become home of the Libertan people. On its own, it would have never held life but the Shangri-la colony ship Tokyo settled here at the beginning of the second era.   The oceans of Libertas are frozen solid, and the planet sits far beyond the goldilocks zone of the cold star it orbits. Faced with no alternative, Libertan civilisation has adapted and spread under the ice plains of Libertas. Just over 800 million organic Sophont find their home in the aquatic cities of Libertas. Many more occupy the skies above with a swarm of starbases and stations in orbit.   Libertas is a nexus for the economy, government and military of The Symposium, and has a vibrant cultural scene. Despite the harsh conditions of their life, the inhabitants of Libertas have found many ways to express themselves. Libertas' cultural elite dictate trends in fashion, art and music across the system.

Geography
Libertas from space is a largely featureless ball of ice, but it was once an ocean world. Today those oceans serve as host to a thick ice plate that floats above their waters, the planet slowly freezing solid as its sun dims. Libertas orbits the gas giant Festivia, and the geothermal activity of its own planetary core combined with tidal flexing keeps its oceans liquid, yet on the surface, the ice is as hard as granite. Its depth varies across the planet but reaches up to 30 kilometers in the thickest places. The human settlement of Libertas has had to adapt to these challenges. They responded by moving beneath the surface of the planet's icy crust. The wreck of the Tokyo ark ship lies on the surface of Libertas' ice, where it landed and was subsequently cannibalised and abandoned when Tokyo City was constructed.
