Emtia - Region

The next item on Duna's agenda was the Saniro Forest, which runs along Emtia's border with Raydon and Tenlen, and then the Kengar Mountains at the northernmost part of Emtia.   ~ From The Book of Duna

Geography

Emtia, home to the Emtian people, unicorns, and various other creatures, is a rich and beautiful land created by the benevolent Duna, the god of the moons. Even after the disappearance of the unicorns it's, so far, managed to retain it's beauty, though not quite as splendid as it was before.

Kengar Mountains

The countryside of Emtia is filled with hills and farmlands. Behind the castle to the north are the Kengar Mountains and the Northern Sea. There are rumors of a large, black space in the mountains called The Abyss. No one knows why Duna put it there, but it's presence has been the focal point of many tall tales and children's stories. Some speculate it's the entrance to an ancient civilization of large flying creatures that pre-dates Duna and the rest of the Kamsi. Others are certain that it wasn't Duna at all that created The Abyss. But if Duna didn't create it...who did?

Saniro Forest

The Saniro Forest can be found to the south and west, running along the border with Tenlen and Raydon. Emtians enjoy the vast array of colors that the seasons provide over the course of a year. A river flows through Emtia from the northeast and cuts through the forest and beyond into Raydon. Various streams branch off the river, giving the forest fresh water. So far only one road goes through the forest into Raydon. This road was used before Darad's invasion to bring goods to the market to sell or trade.

Natural Resources

Before Darad and his army invaded, the farmland consisted of rich, soft soil. The climate in Emtia is moderate, which makes it easy to grow as many crops as it never gets too hot or too cold. The magic of the unicorns also aids in the growth of the plants. One could also find as many herbs as they needed in and around the Saniro Forest. Herbs for healing, spices, or teas. Some plants also could also be used to dye clothing or hair, if they wished.   After the unicorns vanished and Darad usurped the throne, the magic from the land vanished. The soil hardened slightly, making planting much more difficult. And the climate also adjusted, bringing more rain when they needed sun, or more sun when they needed rain. Emtians were still able to grow their crops, but it became increasingly more difficult, producing a harvest of less quality than before.   The Saniro Forest and Kengar Mountains also changed, becoming more hostile and losing some of their beauty. It was as if the land mourned what had happened.

Unicorns were the first creatures created by Duna when he created Emtia. They are sentient beings, and the first two, Varyti and Myrsi become the mother and father of all unicorns.
  • From Unicorns
  • Unicorns and Emtians are the primary species and ethnicities in Emtia. Other various creatures live in and around the Saniro Forest. Those will be explored in more detail in a separate article about the Saniro Forest.

    Darad's Invasion

More details regarding Darad's invasion will be found in The Shard of Myrsi whenever I finish writing it. I also plan on writing a couple of short stories that cover events before the invasion. Those stories will only be available in full to subscribers on Patreon or Steady.

The invasion bit sounds pretty important. Maybe give it a section of its own to amp up the prose about all the changes? :)

The invasion is what starts the novel, so I can't go into too much detail on that until I write more of it, haha. Besides, I need to leave some information for the actual book ;-) Once I have more details on that I'll probably be able to provide prose quotes as teasers ;-)

This seems like a pretty good start to describing the geography of the region, but I'm left a bit wanting on the details. I'd like to know more!

The invasion sounds like it ruined much. Is there any chance they might be able to be restored one day? Also, do you plan on writing more on the invasion? I agree with Qurilion - it sounds incredibly important to the article.

Aaah, perfect ;) You may want to add a footnote to the article, then? "More details on the tragedy that befell Emtia can be read in..."

Hmm, good idea. I'll work that in.
