MIT
MIT is now a Federacy Special Investigative Unit, with a charter to investigate Precursor, Psionic, and related interests. It's activities are pretty confidential and when dealing with Matters of Interest, they report to Senator Ana and/or Chief Elder of the Minans and their specific designees.
MIT, or the Minan Investigative Team, is the formerly chartered Guild tasked with the responsibility of enhancing relations between the Federacy and the Minans.
Formerly, the powers that be (Dometown Transitional Authority aka the DTA and Riftside Affairs Division) had commissioned the Alphans (PC team) as an Independent Investigative Service with the following charter:
Oversee and Assist the investigation of the Precursor Sites
Assist the process of the DTA in developing and maintaining equitable terms for the Minans and to gain access to their planet
Provisos have been expressed by the following sides:
Represent the Minans by ensuring that the Federacy doesn’t simply come in and “take over.” To this end, the Team has been “provisionally” accepted by the Minan Chief Elders, who - up until recently - had been thought to be much more independent than they apparently are. At the insistence of the Chief Elders, they are effectively “diplomats,” albeit of limited status (only while in the Minos system).
Represent the Federacy by a) gaining access to the sites and/or the objects of the sites, and b) securing these sites against abusive interests. Help to determine the suitability of the Minos as a Federacy Protectorate.
Defend the common interests of both parties by a) preparing and protecting us against Common Threats and b) put forth reports and suggestions concerning the utilization of the Precursor Sites.
That commission and those provisos remain somewhat intact except that they are now officially considered Ambassadors to the Minans and Curiosity Alpha is considered something of a mobile Embassy. Though they haven't been offficially accepted Federacy diplomats, it is only a matter of time, especially in their new role as an SIU sanctioned by Senator Ana.
