Ynys Awen

There was something... magical about Ynys Awen. Its air was richer and more nourishing than air elsewhere, its grass both greener and softer, its water clearer and more refreshing. Some say this was where the Fae first entered the mortal realm and I believe them. To live on Ynys Awen is to feel the Awen like one does the lightning. Even those insensitive to the Awen feel an uncomfortable prickling of energy. Those who can, well, for the first while, they are practically drunk of the sensations of the island.

Geography

A string of mountains jut suddenly from the sea and rise to dizzying heights while crumpled mesas and plateaus slide towards the shore. Trees begin practically at the high-tide mark and stretch all the way to the tree-line on the mountain slopes, just below the level of low-hanging clouds.   Mountain lochs and valleys lie scattered across the island, pleasant shelters for small communities and homesteads.   From the center of the island is Mon Coimhead, the tallest mountain in the archipelago. Its peak is a place of pilgrimage for those who worship Lynur, as from the summit, one can watch the sun rise, peak, and set without the obstruction.

Fauna & Flora

Oak, beech, maple, and elm trees form the majority of the lowland forest. Eventually, they blend into an evergreen spruce forest on the upper slopes of the mountain. These forests are interspersed by thick brambles, shrubs, and hardwood undergrowth, with berry bushes very common.   The woods are thick with deer, boar, birds, foxes, and wolves, while the many lochs and streams have plentiful fish.
