Session 10

This chapter begins in the gloom of night, as our heroes emerge from their meeting with the man with the cigar, Dominic. As they retreated from eavesdropping at the door, they decided that they should probably wait until morning before doing anything. In the morning, each member of our trio had their own plans to follow up on. Liaden O'Legal decided that she would follow up with their legal team and offer her assistance where appropriate, Sam Calas elected to train and strengthen himself at the local garrison and Oryim followed the branches of his family tree at the library.

The legal team, comprised of Rohakarth, Xaboldend, Thohillodin, Rokrath and Erof were working fervently, with each of them either writing opening statements to arguments, following up on potential witnesses or stacking up evidence in the party's favour. Seeing that there was little left to do here, Liaden felt confident that they were in good hands. Oryim however, found his family lineage in the hall of records on the library's third floor. The master of records, who seemed more engrossed in news from the East was helpful in pointing out where the Daedark family records could be found. He stated that it had been a very long time since anyone in town had borne the name of Daedark, a long time indeed. As Oryim began to search through their lineage, they learned of not only the political landscape of Fatoris several hundred years ago, but also of the existence of their uncles on their father's side. However both of these men, Grimwalde and Vorth had long since left Fatoris and potentially even Mitlind.

Oryim decided that this information may be of interest to the master of records, and he would be right. It was in that moment that Oryim was informed that they were, in fact, famous and a town legend. The master of records, no longer engrossed in the goings on outside of their town walls regaled Oryim with the tale of 'The Lost Viscount.' A title that many have tried to claim, only to have The Mistress of Fatoris charge them with identity theft. With this new information, Oryim's world shifted beneath them.

In that moment, Liaden arrived to fill Oryim in on the details of their legal defence. This information would immediately be overshadowed by Oryim's news. A plan began to hatch between the two of them: If they could convince The Mistress that Oryim was, in fact The Lost Viscount, she may be willing to postpone the legal proceedings. With the plan agreed, the pair made their way back to to their legal representation.

The news shook the room. Many of the lawyers were too stunned to talk. It was Rohakarth who broke the tension calmly asking for evidence of this, which Oryim gladly provided. With the Lost Viscount finally revealed and returned to Fatoris, the lawyers though of a new plan of attack, though they informed Liaden that their main defence depended on the results of the scouting party into the mountain cave. For three days, our heroes waited to hear any news from the garrison. It was Xaboldend who informed them that the guards had reported nothing in the caves. Naturally, red-flags began to wave in front of Oryim and Liaden who quickly hatched a plan to do their own investigating.

With a combination of quick lockpicking skills from Liaden and Oryim's newly identified fanged dagger, the two of them were able to sneak their way into the Industrial district through the smithing guild. When they arrived at the mine's entrance however, they were greeted by two thick, barred wooden doors. Thinking this was suspicious, the two of them slowly removed the bar and proceeded into the darkness. Following the path to where they broke through, our heroes came upon the opening, though now it was somewhat larger than when they had originally passed through. The two of them shared a glance and pushed forward into the next opening. The room was familiar, though now sported dense webs along its walls with what appeared to be two humanoid shaped bulges in the webbed walls.

With Oryim hearing the sounds of distant chatter, the two of them began to cautiously retreat. Though Oryim's curiosity got the better of them as he needed to know what was being said. The voices discussed two of their own "going beyond" and that they hadn't heard from them in a while. The conversation came to an abrupt end as one of the voices claimed that light was coming from the next opening. Sensing that this would be as good a time as any to leave, our heroes made their hasty retreat, stopping only once they were back in the town proper. With trouble brewing, our heroes found themselves not knowing who they could trust and their court date fast approaching.
