Great Fallen Incursion Military Conflict in Kyrn | World Anvil

Great Fallen Incursion

The Great Fallen Incursion began in 17 B.E. when a rift was opened in the Khaziram Mountains in what is now known as Ignirath. It is not know how long the Fallen had the rift open for, but it is estimated that it lasted several weeks. During that time tens of thousands of the Fallen were able to pass from the Lower Lands into the Middle Lands.   When they burst forth from the mountains, they headed to the Northeast, killing and burning everything in their path until they got to the Abrovil River, where they were not able to cross due to the width of the river at that point. Instead they turned North, into @Brog, and then the Lands of the Horse Clans where they were able to find a bridge at Drohd's Crossing.   The battle at Drohd's Crossing lasted 6 days first as the people of the town fought to keep the fallen from crossing the bridge, and then reinforcements arrived to support them. Eventually the Fallen were just too many, and too strong, and they broke through the defenses, and resumed their slaughtering as they continued their march eastward. But at this point the Fallen split their forces with a majority of them turning to the south east, while a third of them turned to the north east.   The northern spear made their way around the Bhalgron Mountians, and then the Durkrag Mountains before turning back and cutting their way through the mountains towards Kyrnia.   The southern branch of the Fallen Incursion met much tougher resistance as the people of the Middle Lands started joining together to face the invasion as one. They were helped by the realization that the Fallen would wade through shallow water, but deeper water held them at bay, they also had an aversion to the Bhalgron Mountians, and refused to cut through them, even though there were several easy passes available.   By 4 B.E., the Fallen had advanced all the way to the outskirts of present day Kyrnia, and were threatening a complete destruction of the Middle Lands. They were held back by the hero Huron Half-elf and here followers who would eventually form the Holy Order of the Bringers and Protectors of the Light Resplendent, but while they were keeping them at bay, they were not pushing them back. Then in 3 B.E. Simimar Kyrn discovered a way to create the Dragonborn with the help of the Dragons of the Bhalgron Mountians. Quickly creating 25,000 dragonborn soldiers, and providing them with just the basics of training and equipment, the new Dragonborn legions were able to make huge advances against the Fallen armies and started to push them back. As more and more Dragonborn were created and legions formed, the tide of war changed. and within a few months, the Fallen were on the run.   It is unclear, if all the Fallen were killed, or if they escaped back to the Lower Lands, or if they found some place in the Middle Lands to hide and recover, but over the years the Lightbringers have made claims of finding a Fallen hidden somewhere in the world, and eliminating it. But the words of Huron Half-elf are repeated every sunrise by the members of the order she founded: "This day I pledge to my Lord and Protector, Anno the Light, that I shall remain vigilant against the return of the Fallen."
