Endless Polder

"I wouldn't go there if I were you. Hell, I wouldn't even go there if I was me, which I am. If the Kecuala don't get you it's because you ran into the territory of something worse. Even if you don't meet anything on your way, and even if you can get road pace on the swamp somehow, it would be faster to go around. You shouldn't trust anything that plays by those kinds of rules. Don't trust the swamp."     ~Abide Baht Mig, caravaneer

Geography

The Endless Polder consists of, as the name would suggest, a massive swamp. Scattered throughout are unexplored ruins, sucking marshland, and untold dangers. The swamp itself exists in a planar depression such as are common throughout Shelor, but relatively rare on Seaudyr. Consequently, it takes roughly six times the amount of time to travel through it than it would to walk the entire perimeter.

Fauna & Flora

The Endless Polder is a primeval place, and nearly everything feeds on either blood or meat. Even the plants have an outsized number of carnivores. As a result of Krong's blood, most of the animals in the swamp are reptilian, from more mundane examples such as crocodiles, monitor lizards and alligators, to more primordial examples such as velociraptors and tyrannosaurs.   The people of Lorical that make their living from this region have noticed the flora and fauna becoming increasingly more primoridal and savage recently, and blame it on the local Ferneth. They call it Gator Krong.

Natural Resources

The primary resource harvested from the ever-growing swamp is wood, followed closely by enriched peat. Hides and meat from fish and reptiles are also commonly harvested and processed in the various logging camps and trading posts ringing the swamp.

History

It is said that the winged Titan Krong was slain on the site, struck out of the air by a magic blast from a doomsday weapon built by the men of Grimhii. The weapon melted the flesh from the Titan's bones. The flesh and blood soaked into the ground and stretched the resulting swamp inward. Ever since, it is said, the polder slowly expands every year, and only the men of Lorical harvesting the edges for lumber and peat keep it in check.

Tourism

Adventurers occasionally ply the swamp for treasure and adventure. Not only are the innumerable ruins a wealth of ancient booty, but the lizardfolk tribes in the area are a ripe and mostly unexploited trade or raiding target.
