The surface of the preservation dome resonated with him. Lines appeared in the originally seamless hemisphere. The sections lifted, spreading wide like a flower, before vanishing as the magic holding them dissipated. All that remained was a metal tray bearing a small book and a pile of papers.Hidden for centuries beneath the flagstones in what had once been The Gilded Cage's courtyard, the preservation dome uncovered by Darshan vris Mhanek and his husband, Prince Hamish was of average size for its type, being little bigger than the typical serving cloche. Although buried for an unknown number of years, the dome's magic maintained its stability and kept the records it carried in the same state as when they'd been sealed. Opening it required feather-light pulses of magic in a certain sequence lightly touched on the surface.
