Preservation Domes

Like most of the wondrous technology in Udynea, preservation domes are Domian in origin. They were designed to protect valuable documents or items and withstand immense catastrophes. Most were small enough to transport, with the average size being that of a moderate crate or cart. A handful, discovered in far-flung outposts, were the size of large rooms and contained the stock of a library or laboratory. All in the same condition as they were when first placed as though time stood still.   To look at, the domes are moderately unassuming with only a few having elaborate designs etched on the outer shell. Coming in all shapes, they’re unified in their glass-like, black surfaces. When still sealed, the surface hums with the same magic energy as a spellster’s shield.   True to the Domian quirk of favouring magic, the means to unlock the domes often required a spellster’s aid. Although, not every dome open the same way, there is a finite amount of commands that they will unlock for; from a single pulse of magic, to complex sequences. Most Udyneans will take their time to run through these commands due to the fact the domes often hold rare objects and texts. Due to the knowledge of creating these domes being lost, once opened, they cannot be resealed again.   The opening of a dome happens slowly. Firstly, the dome resonates with the spellster attempting access, then lines appear in the seamless surface. The sections lift, spreading outwards like a flower, before vanishing as the magic holding them dissipates, leaving behind a metal tray bearing whatever was contained within.
