Silent Watcher Initiation rite

"Annually we gather under the stars to welcome the freshmen, who successfully proved themselves in our church's university as Silent Watchers.
The tradition is that we remain silent, while the freshmen try to make themselves known to our watcher in the sky. The artificial moon of Konesans, who looks just like a giant eye, the eye of Terminus, is known to see everything.
To honour our ancient ways, the freshmen try to send a message via morse code; the goal is to send the Sky a clear and clever message inviting our god and master to take a look at his new devotees.
If the message arrives and Terminus joins the rite, he will lose a few warm words personalized for every graduate and allows us to break our silence to finish preparing the festival."

Silent Watcher (49th century)

History

The tradition began somewhen in the 27th century, long before the current time. The church of knowledge in Scamall was at that time merely part of a building plan of the city to honour their four gods with the enormous Plaza of the Four housing cathedral-sized churches, one for each of their gods. At that time the relationship between mortals and gods was still loose, and the council preferred to remain far above the law. A couple of students of a local university, who have made their first groundbreaking discoveries in geography and astrology attempted to make contact with the strangely metallic eye-planet in the sky having prepared sacrifices for the god of knowledge in form of originals of their discoveries and exclusive passages they had yet to publish.
Their attempts to send a carefully crafted morse code with a flashlight against the sky indeed proved successful, as the mechanical god shortly after appeared behind them asking them why they try to contact him with a cleverly encoded message.
Surprised, that their attempt fruited, the group bowed down in front of the eternal offering him the gifts of their accomplishments.

"What a peculiar situation. Mortals wanting to appease me with carefully researched knowledge.
Sending me a silent message layered far under a misconception of words randomly scrambled together.
I am impressed by your craftiness, my sheep, and was curious regarding what you wanted me to offer.
...
Curious.
I don't have records of such fine detail work in the knowledge pool.
These are indeed magnificent and you claim you have just begun?
...
Most interesting!
So you are asking me, a god, to finance you an expedition to the Volcano Griieß? Astrological theories regarding the imminent birth of a Drago?
You have my interest.
...
Accepted!
But I won't send my sheep away into a different country without any safety regulations. You do want to undergo this expedition in my name?
I am flattered."

Only mere weeks later the group, who got dubbed by the omnipotent god Silent Watcher, left the country fully funded by his divinity.
Their later success founded the beginning of Terminus interest in the mortals, as he expanded the little one-time business with these four gifted explorers into something more that later developed into the birth of the Silent Watchers, a religious organisation with the goal to understand and discover everything the universe had to offer.

Even later Terminus offered the four now old high priests of his new order the unique chance to join him in his moon-brain Konesans leaving behind their mortality to ascend finding enlightenment in a body designed to last 1000 years.
Enough time to satisfy their ever-growing curiosity in his personal library mind, the knowledge pool.

To honour the event, that essentially founded his organisation, it became the rule for graduated watchers to contact him once a year in unique and challenging ways by paying their respects to the moon in the sky, that is him.
A rite, that changed vastly over the many centuries into a large scale festival to never feel outdated while keeping the morse code method and initial intimacy at all times.

The festival

Honouring their god in the sky (and at the same time amidst them), graduates and idle Watchers organize a livid festival to give every attendant a chance to eat well and find interesting new people to talk with.
Most alliances and future expedition groups get initially forged in this very night in presence of the metallic god's soft eyes.

Their god usually only observes the fest from afar gradually picking out individuals for private conversations.
One of the biggest honours for the fresh Silent Watchers is to get a few minutes with their god talking about their plans trying to convince him of their goals.
If they manage to pique Terminus' interest he might consider ordering a financial support package to support their goals.
Gaining the rare support from the supreme Watcher himself renders following steps to realize ones dreams much easier.
"We were able to learn so much about our existence solely through me providing the most promising with the needed support.
I gladly invest my spare riches into the future, if that means filling up one more spot of the most complete library of the universe; my mindscape, the knowledge pool.
My memories are the experiences of my dear sheep and I treasure all of them."

Great article! I love the story of the initial contact, how they just decided to contact Terminus with a torch light and morse god and then ask him for funding for their research XD The dream for all academics XD

And it worked so well that these four are now considered saints and founders of the church :P

Well, not exactly. Terminus is a god and built in the millennia of his life Konesans as storage for his many memories and so much more. The moon is literally his brain (and houses his original body)   It literally looks like an eye in the sky due to the kilometer sized satellite dish, which is always faced towards the planet   Konesans: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/kingsmaker-soulwing/a/konesans2C-artificial-moon-article
