Sequoyah
The territory of Sequoyah is a region in the southeast of the Kingdom of America. Sequoyah is an unincorporated territory rather than a state, and has been ruled as a Principality under the Prince Regent of Sequoyah. The current Prince Regent is Crown Prince James.
Demographics
The region has a high degree of native population in comparison to other states. Originally settled as West Florida, the region became home to the Five Tribes after a compromise.
Government
During the formation of the territory, King Augustus II appointed his son, Crown Prince William, as the first Prince Regent of the territory. The position was made so as to act as a governorship over the territory while being subordinate to the Federal Government. Working with prominent chiefs like John Ross of the Cherokee and George Harkins of the Choctaw, Prince William established a government-to-government relationship, acting as mediary between tribal and federal offices. Alongside the Prince Regent are the chiefs of the Five Tribes, as well as elected delegates that serve as legislature.
History
Sequoyah was first controlled by Spain as the Territory of Florida. During the Seven Years' War, Florida was granted to Great Britain. Spain would side with the Thirteen Colonies during the American Revolution, allying with France, and gain Florida back in the following peace treaty. Spain would divide the region up into the Territories of West Florida and East Florida.
With the wars against Napoleon being waged in Europe, the now Kingdom of America sided with the coalitions, entering into the Franco-American Wars. As Spain was allied with Napoleon at the time, they entered the war as well. In 1806, America successfully defeated France and Spain, and gained the Florida territories.
Throughout the American Southwest, the native tribes, being designated the Five Civilized Tribes due to their adoption of European style customs, had been in tensions with the white settlers over land rights. Successive Kings and Chancellors of America declined to strip land away from these tribes and violate the treaties that had previously been signed. It had been American policy to assimilate the Tribes into American culture rather than displace.
However, it was during the Tenure of Chancellor John Quincy Adams, 2nd Duke of Massachusetts, that these tensions came to a head. An unauthorized Georgia militia was organized to exterminate the Seminoles out of the territory in order to gain land for farming. King Augustus considered calls of authorizing federal forces to intervene in the matter, but Chancellor Adams convinced him to take the diplomatic route.
Federal funds were authorized for relocation of the Five Tribes to West Florida for Indian Territory. Most members of the Five Tribes accepted payments and land grants in the territory, though many refused. The Tribes were granted covered wagons, and the American government established rest stops along the way.
Prince Henry von Lexington, under the reign of his brother King Edward II, was appointed Prince Regent of Sequoyah in 1890. While in the office, Henry grew discontent with leadership roles and abandoned his post in Pensacola, leaving the governing to the Principal Chiefs. Upon his ascension to king, Henry appointed his cousin, Archduke Augustus as Prince Regent. Augustus would build the American military presence in the region, establishing bases in Pensacola, Mobile, and Biloxi.
