The Shadows Inside Dugwood
General Summary
Starting off as a humble barbecue that led into something of a sleepover at the Dugwood Apartment Complex, the weather would turn rapidly inclement on the following morning (after Jack and Kairee nearly broke their respective tailbones from jumping off the second floor balcony). Hunkering down on the second floor, after the warning from SDI comes through the feeds, things would go south soon indeed, as the sound of a crash, and a cry for help echoes from a few floors above. Eliza Elliot, the computer whiz that attended the barbecue, seems to be in distress. As the group (Jack Knight, Eva Isenomon, Kairee Silar, and Kyali) arrived, they'd discover a broken window, a locked bathroom, and a bizarre monstrosity that's mostly mouth, and writhing pseudopods, gnashing and bashing at the door.
The team, after besting the beast, head for Ol Maverson's place, and, after figuring out the code, discover that the old man has turned his unit into a veritable fortress, with reinforced windows, metal vault doors. The code unlocked the armory, and gave the team access to upgrades, and ammunition. With this, and discovering a recording on a camera, the team discovers the old man armed up, and went down to confront the noisome maintenance men, who were causing a ruckus throughout the night.
The door to the boiler room, as the team would discover, is booby-trapped, peppering the team with poisoned darts. The way into the belly of the apartment was cleared, and at the heart, there stood a trio of shadows, chanting ominously around a circle of flickering green candles. Though the dart volley softened the team, by all means, the team rocked in with a vengeance, taking out one of the cultists with one fell swoop. The head ritualist, of course, had choice words, attempted to lock down Jack with a Hold Person, but, ferocity and determination availed. Bullets flew, blades sang, and one by one, the cultists are cut down. The last one to draw breath is, ironically, saved from death, but not for altruism; he is a lead, an avenue for answers, and the more orderly personnel on the task are mission oriented enough to see him captured, and pulled out. Of course, the Old Man, a cat with cracked goggles, a buff shark-man, and a gazelle in bloodied clothes still needed to be pulled out as well, before the whole thing could be considered a true success.
With the ritual interrupted, the Time Stall faded, and though this certainly startles April Dawn and Eliza Elliot, when Eva's date, Etienne Lasandis, regains the ability to move, and falls squarely on his behind, only to then run down the stairs, nearly crashing into the team as they ascend to intercept. A short moment after Etienne continues to run away, the group discover that the building is starting to shake, and crumble, as something far above bellows deep, and seemingly retreats. Reconvening with a panicked Eliza, and a bushy-tailed April, the team makes to escape, though not before evacuating the injured and captured from the basement. On the street, it's discovered that police, and some other agency, have cordoned off the area around the apartment. Standing by a sleek black car was a round-bodied, white catfolk in a tidy, well-kept business suit, who greets the team, and congratulates them on making it out. She, Ms. Mavara, also extends an offer to the people- who she definitely considers go-getters- to be on-call, in case anything like this comes to happen again.
