The Bronze Buckle Tavern
Sitting just at the base of the Lordsbridge and featuring views of White Bay and Castle Whiteport, the Bronze Buckle Tavern is one of the oldest taverns in the city and caters to many of the city's foremost citizens. An impressive three story tall building, the tavern is comfortable, spacious, and ornate. It serves as a de facto headquarters for the Golds, who often host gatherings on the upper floors, and is a favorite spot for Bronzecloaks officers to have a drink after their shift.
Purpose / Function
The Bronze Buckle Tavern was founded more than a century and a half prior by its current proprietor, Garland Aratoris, who founded the tavern near the Lordsbridge to cater to Whiteport's high society. Thew tavern serves as an important gathering point for many members of the city watch and local nobles and officials, and its rooms, while expensive, serve as temporary lodgings for visiting nobles and persons of import. The tavern occasionally hosts balls and galas, though these tend to be invite only, and the tavern also has a formidable Warforged bouncer who serves as the establishment's security and screens any unsavory patrons before they enter.
Alterations
The Bronze Buckle tavern has undergone a number of renovations. During the terror, it was badly damaged as part of an attack which targeted the Bronzecloaks who frequented it. A number of patrons were killed and the building was badly damaged, but has since been repaired. Some of the marble busts still show signs of the damage, with chipped features or cracks.
Architecture
The four story tavern stands apart from much of Whiteport's other architecture. It is constructed primarily of stone and wood like other buildings, but the building is supported by marble columns carved with intricate bas-relief of sailing ships, noble figures, and magical and mundane beasts, guided in brass. The roof is tiled, and features a number of wrought iron balconies on the higher floors which offer views of the bay and castle area. Inside, the building is a standard rectangular shape, with marble floors and featuring a large inner courtyard and garden, with tables and comfortable cushioned chairs scattered about for the patrons, and broken up by marble busts and statues. A finely polished wooden staircase and intricately carved bannister lead up to the upper floors where patrons rooms are sited, each with a door facing in on the courtyard. The entire building is immaculately clean and polished to a shine.
History
The Bronze Buckle Tavern has been a staple of Whiteport's high society nightlife for more than a century and a half, all under the watchful eye of its proprietor, Garland Aratoris. During that time, it has hosted many of the duchy's prominent nobles when they visited the city and could not find lodgings in the castle, while it also boasts a number of famous patrons and people of import from the wider world who stay in the luxurious inn during their visit. The Inn has become the de-facto headquarters of the Gold Chariot racing team, which holds most of its events at the tavern, and many of its most prominent supporters are tavern regulars. The tavern has also long made it policy to serve the officers of Whiteport's city watch, the Bronzeguard, who frequent the tavern after their shifts on duty since it is close to their barracks, and Garland makes it a policy to give the first round to any watch officers free.
Tourism
The Bronze Buckle Tavern attracts high-individuals from around the world, and caters to those of discerning tastes. As a result, it prides itself on being a discrete, respectable, comfortable, and clean tavern, as well as its various important patrons. The Tavern has been known to host minor visiting nobles (especially those from the rest of Attika) who are not afforded rooms in the keep, wealthy merchants, military officers, diplomats, and the occasional high-profile adventurer or hero. Most notably, it is frequented by Gavin Bronzecourt (and occasionally his sister Rhiannon). Gavin is known to "treat" patrons to performances.
