Seven Drunken Knights Public House
One of Whiteport's most popular taverns, the Seven Drunken Knights has forged a reputation as a lively place to experience Whiteport's nightlife, as its location in the heart of the Temple District and only a short walk from the Hippodrome makes it a popular meeting point for citizens of all classes and backgrounds.
Purpose / Function
The Seven Drunken Knights was constructed and built by Sancho and his six brothers, noting the popularity of the various pubs and taverns around the hippodrome which catered to the crowds, but finding most of them had been claimed by or only served specific teams, or otherwise lacked the mass appeal to generate a reliable customer base. Shortly after its founding, the Seven Drunken Knights rapidly earned a reputation as a lively centerpiece of Whiteport's nightlife and as a focal point of the celebrations surrounding the races and events in the hippodrome.
The Seven Drunken Knights is Sancho's main business, and caters to all manner of sports fans. It rents rooms (but these tend to be expensive), but it more known for its great food and drink specials, and hosts tailgates, public barbeques, sports betting, and lively parties whenever there are events taking place at the Hippodrome. Most notably, the Seven Drunken Knights features a different drink special for each day of the week, and each day the host (Sancho and his "brothers") changes as well.
Alterations
Since its initial founding, the Seven Drunken Knights has become more and more popular and grown significantly, adding a second and then third floor to accommodate more patrons, and even adding various balconies and outdoor seating to accommodate particularly large crowds on race days when the Seven Drunken Knights customers and festivities tend to spill out into the street and which have a tendency to take over the nearby square. Small towers and bannerets have been added, painted to look like stone, which give the building the impression of a castle.
Architecture
The Seven Drunken Knights is one of the newest of Whiteport's Public Houses. It rests on a stone base with large frosted glass windowpanes, while the second floor and third floors overhang the first, resting on wooden stilts, and have been painted to look like stone. On the third floor, seven small towers protrude, each with a small table where patrons can sit and drink, and each tower features a large painted shield with different heraldry and is crowned with a small banner which matches the shield, giving the building the impression of a miniature castle. Under the overhang from the second and third floor, long standing tables have been set outside where patrons can rest their drinks as they gather and chat about the races in the shade of the facility, while in the street in front of the tavern more round tables (each with room for six) sit. The pub makes a point of catering to fans of all the major teams (and has a strict policy against any sort of brawling or inter-team violence), and therefore also prominently features the heraldry of each of the major teams (Golds, Blues, and Reds) above the swinging wooden door.
History
The Seven Drunken Knights was founded a little more than fifteen years ago when Sancho and his "brothers" recognized the potential profit from a new public house founded so close to the Hippodrome which catered to every club and which could generate enough mass appeal. Using his business savvy, charisma, creativity and great deals, the Seven Drunken Knights has become a feature of Whiteport's nightlife, and Sancho now holds a seat on the Whiteport Collective (though his position is more nominal, and he takes very little interest in attending meetings, all the better since his fellow guild members view him as more than a bit touched).
Tourism
The Seven Drunken Knights has a well-deserved reputation as one of Whiteport's finest pubs. Sancho has poured all his heart and work into the business, and the pub has a reputation for great food, hosting outdoor tailgates and barbecues which cater to the crowds on race day. These often include seafood boils, pork roasts, or fish bakes in addition to the more common fair which can be found in many of Whiteport's taverns, and Sancho takes great pride in finding some of Whiteport's best chefs and ingredients. It is most popular for its daily drink specials, as each day the pub features one of the knight's beers (popular throughout the city) for only a copper piece, which draws crowds in, while also featuring other high quality drinks and ales to cater to every palate and more discerning patrons. Moreover, Sancho and his "brothers" are welcoming and good natured hosts, always happy to chat with the pub's patrons, and are seen as a sort of local icon. Everyone in Whiteport knows Sancho and his brothers and has a good story from the Drunken Knights, and humors his eccentricities, though no one is quite certain whether Sancho is truly touched or simply a savvy businessman playing a character.
