Hileya Jax

Chancellor Hileya Anne Jax

We're not just an empire anymore. We need to put the common people back in the focus of the commonwealth. It's in the name, by gods.   If anyone's going to do that from the office of the Chancellor, it's her.   -Serat Boral

Physical Description

Physical quirks

In line with many Teredean people, Hileya's hair has turned to blonde rather than gray with age.

Specialized Equipment

Hileya often wears her homemade armor in lieu of the ceremonial Chancellor's set.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Hileya was born to a modest couple who worked as scribes in the city of Kalem. Her family had resettled to Kalem generations earlier when their home of Calmyria was destroyed during The Descent.   As a young girl, Hileya spent countless hours reading and transcribing books brought from distant shores to Kalem. Being part of her family's transcription business, Hileya learned to read and write Common, Eladrin, Undercommon, and Draconic by age 8.   At the age of 16, the city council elected to ban translations from "unsavory" realms such as the Underdark, Tironar, and Glenmont. This bankrupted Hileya's family and she soon found herself applying to be a Pathcutter to forge a route through Valax's Cauldron as per the Re-expansion Doctrine.   At 24, after her platoon was almost entirely wiped out (her being one of three survivors), she was discovered by a local spellbook transcriber in Kingsgate, and was given an apprenticeship to excuse her from the Pathcutters. She worked as a spellbook scribe for nearly a decade before getting more involved in Commonwealth politics. It was at this point she had the ability to relocate her family to Kingsgate.

Gender Identity

Commonly referring to herself as a Woman, Hileya has dismissed most discussion of her gender but seems to adopt the title, though commonly breaking many gender norms associated with it.

Sexuality

Hileya has never publicly discussed her sexuality, remains unmarried and in no publicly affirmed sexual relationship.

Education

Hileya has been awarded honorary degrees in High Languages, Foreign Cultural Studies, Arcane Linguistics, and Professional Transcription from the University at Kingsgate. The only credited, certified degree she holds is in Pathcutting and Forging.

Employment

Working most of her life as a scribe, Hileya also has years of experience as a Pathcutter.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Hileya is the first woman to be elected as Chancellor of the Imperial Commonwealth of Emyr in 200 PD, as well as being the youngest elected Chancellor at the age of 36. She is also responsible for the peaceful integration of Kalem and Tiron into the Commonwealth.

Failures & Embarrassments

Hileya canceled the Pathcutting expedition from Cauldron's Heel through Valax's Cauldron, after the Bloodletters warband sacked Cauldron's Heel, and after immense political pressure due to the setbacks encountered in the Cauldron itself.

Intellectual Characteristics

Hileya has been described as forthcoming, sharp, and self-deprecating. She has been renowned for her abilities but she seems to rarely acknowledge them.

Morality & Philosophy

Hileya's political drive for Chancellor came from her desire to be open with what was considered "dangerous" knowledge in Kalem. Censorship and lack of cultural understanding drove the fear in Kalem that resulted in the linguistic ban that financially ruined her and her family.   Since then, she has advocated for less oversight on telling people what to consume intellectually, and has put emphasis on education and unification.

Social

Family Ties

Hileya's family still resides in Kingsgate, running cultural outreach to newly integrated settlements of the Imperial Commonwealth of Emyr

Religious Views

Hileya has taken part in all the religious ceremonies associated with the Chancellor's office and it's relation to the Church of Bahamut. She has not elected to hold religious ceremonies outside of mandated ones, as many previous Chancellors have. She has talked publicly about her respect for the goddess Tymira.

Wealth & Financial state

Not born into wealth, Hileya does take the Chancellor salary, donating half annually to the city of Kalem's child linguistics program. Much of the remaining salary goes to support her family in Kingsgate, whom assist in cultural outreach programs.
