The Grey

Living in the Grey forms you as a Chancellor. You may walk in with what you know of the world but nothing compares to the experience and wisdom of those halls. Sure, there's the day you're given the title, but you don't really become Chancellor until you're there.   -Hileya Jax

Purpose / Function

The Grey is a palace used by the Chancellor of the Imperial Commonwealth of Emyr. It serves as a residence and office, as well as other minor roles such as a hall for ceremonies, a museum, and library.

Alterations

Every Chancellor has traditionally personally commissioned a wing to be added to The Grey. These rooms range from dining quarters to astronomical observatories. If a Chancellor does not survive their term, it is customary for their replacement to either finish their room for them or dedicate one in their honor.   The Grey's additional rooms built by Chancellors are the following:
  • Bronze Hall
  • A massive bronze-plated dining hall used commonly for royal dinners and events. This is the oldest addition to The Grey.
  • North Tower
  • A lookout tower taller than anything in Harriot Cliff, giving a view of the whole region.
  • Memorium
  • Erected in honor of a late Chancellor, this room serves as a place of remembrance and honor for those who died too early or unnecessarily.
  • Durduin Library
  • A massive collection of ancient and original works from across and beyond Kal'Araan.
  • Arcanium
  • A private Arcanium for safe travel and provides The Grey with a protective warding spell.
  • Field Room
  • A large courtyard built for honing personal combat skills and a shooting range.
  • Powdershop
  • A personal workshop for weaponsmithing and experimentation.
  • Display Room
  • A museum housing rare artifacts from cultures all around Kal'Araan
  • Observatory
  • A small looking-glass room to observe the night sky.

Architecture

The grey is an amalgamation of classic Emyri architecture at its core, and evolving more modern day architecture in its newer additions. The color remains the same, however: grey stone and red tiled roof.

History

The Grey was constructed after the fall of the Emyrian Empire of Man, starting the foundation of the city of Stonereach.
