The Descent

Before all other gods in Kal'Araan, there was The First. The eldest of all dragons, she is responsible for the plucking of lands from the Sea of Worlds. From this joining, she spawned her first offspring and therefore the first God-Dragon. They came to be called the Unknown, whose fate still remains a mystery.   Araan was the second of The First's brood. Spawned by the meeting of the elemental planes of earth and fire, the Fountains of Creation. As overseer of the Cinder Wastes, Araan ruled her domain for nearly 700 years. Kal'mortais, the third of the brood, was birthed from the elemental planes of ice and wind, the Frostfell. She became the overseer of the Mistral Reach. The children of The First were bound by her will and watched over the lands she pulled forth from the Sea of Worlds.   For 3000 years Araan and Kal'mortais ruled over the Unmarked Wastes, a lonely and desolate landmass adrift in the Sea of Worlds. Both sought to build their domains, Araan in the north and Kal'mortais in the south. As the borders of their domains drew closer, tension grew between them. Each one struck against the other one’s realm to lay claim. Their battles rose mountains from the ground, cut rivers into the earth, and spread their now well-known landmarks across the lands.   Their conflict eventually came to a final verdict. Araan and Kal'mortais engaged in furious combat in the realm now known as Teredea. Once the border between the dragons' realms, Teredea was a lush forest. However, in the wrath of their battle, cataclysmic blasts of ethereal energy seared the forest to ruins. In fury, Araan set the southern regions ablaze, scorching the earth. This resulted in a sea of dunes, known as the Balar. Kal'mortais, in response, froze the northern realms now known as Wyrmhead. The stress of the conflict ripped through The First's ethereal anchoring, causing the Unmarked Wastes to plummet into the material plane along with Araan and Kal'mortais aboard it.   Now bound to the material plane the sibling's strikes between one another became fatal. The battle finished with no clear victor, both retreating to their respective realms, not to be seen again.   Legends often say Kal'mortais and Araan returned to rest but died from their wounds. Others claim they still live, entombed, too weak to rise. In their absence, the ethereal power vacuum was filled by lesser gods from outside realms, now commonly worshiped across the lands.
