Aldemar II
Fourth King of The Royal House of Kaevil, husband to Elriala
From the start he was known as a hard and uncompromising ruler. He was not a tyrant, not even a bad-man, but he had learned much from the way in which his father, King Arthindon II had been used as the puppet of manipulative factions and individuals and had resolved long before he took the throne that he would never be in that position.
One of his first deeds on taking the throne was the dismissal of the (by then) aged priest of The High Father, Cedricas, who had for many years wielded considerable power by his influence over the former king. Shortly after this dismissal a slanderous note, rumoured to be penned by Cedricas, appeared nailed to the door of the great temple. Aldemar II summoned the holy-man to court and when confronted with a direct accusation the old man denied utterly that he had written those things, affirmed the falseness of the claims, and called down the wrath of the gods on whoever had blasphemed the temple with such lies. When the old man was stricken with paralysis less than a day later Aldemar II was said to have commented, "The gods know their own, and their own good names' protect" He reigned for thirty-six years and scholars suggest that the first half of his reign was spent undoing the harm caused by his father's unintentional neglect of the harder parts of his duties. He had to negotiate or enforce peace among the other Houses and resolve the disputes and schemes that had arisen unchecked under Arthindon II. In the latter half of his reign the land prospered and when he died a natural and peaceful death in 782 he believed he was passing on a peaceful land for his son Armindal I to rule over. Alas that peace would be short-lived for two years later the first warning signs came of a new rise of the Trolls in the Darkening Years
