Cedricas

A senior priest of The High Father who presided over the great temple in Sildern and was known for his worldly ambitions.   Much criticised for his lack of spirituality and his too-great concern for temporal advancement he was unpopular with devout followers of the faith. He had considerable influence over the king Arthindon II whose entire reign lasted under Cedricas' religious authority.  When Arthindon II died in 746, the now very aged Cedricas was dismissed at once from his position by the new king Aldemar II who had long disliked the priest for his intriguing.

Cedricas did not take his dismissal with good grace and is widely believed to the be anonymous author of a slanderous letter found nailed to the doors of the great temple in which the new king was accused of blasphemy, of infidelity and of being unfit to rule.    Aldemar II received these accusations with a cold calmness and summoned Cedricas to court the next day.    The old man was challenged directly as to whether he had written the letter and, put on the spot, denied it utterly and proclaimed that the contents were clearly falsehoods.   The king asked Cedricas what should be done to the man who had posted up lies about his king on the sacred site of the temple.   Cedricas nervously ventured that it would be for the gods, and not for men, to seek redress for such a deed.
"Let it be so," the new King replied
That very night Cedricas was stricken by a paralytic attack and was incapable of movement or speech until his death in 748.
