Aldemar I
The leader of The Royal House of Kaevil at the time of their declaration of independence from House Caervil , and the first king of Kaevil
Aldemar was born in 630 at the very end of the Dark Years , heir to the rule of the house of Kaevil, at the time a cadet branch of House Caervil. He was raised with the values of his father and uncle who had fought Trolls bravely for most of their life and whose efforts had contributed to the safety of all human lands.
His father died when Aldemar was 20 years old, of wounds sustained during the Dark Years that had never truly healed, and Aldemar became the ruler of the house. At the age of twenty he rode alone to Novryk to petition the Duke of House Caervil for the independence of his house. Duke Meramund at first refused his petition and demanded that his guards threw Aldemar from his hall. The guards hesitated, for even at the age of twenty Aldemar was known as a courageous and skilled warrior. It is said that Aldemar unbuckled his sword-belt and dropped it to the ground, unfastened the catches of his armour and cast it aside. He stood there unarmed and unarmoured and declared that he would not leave the court of the Duke and that he would not resist if Meramund's warriors chose to slay him. Meramund, knowing how great was the admiration even in his court for the deeds of the warriors of House Kaevil, knew that he could not bear for this to be how he would be remembered. Putting on a brave-face and laughing away the moment, he said that he would grant House Kaevil a limited charter of independence and rights to its own territory, albeit with dues of taxation and service. Aldemar agreed and returned to his home in Sildern as the first head of the the independent House of Kaevil. He was married to Kelvaria , first Queen of Kaevil in 655 and his first son (Later Arthindon I was born the next year) For the next several years Aldemar secured the boundaries of the The Heartland and his knights and other warriors continued to hunt down and eliminate the remnants and vestiges of the horrors from the Dark Years. Aldemar himself led many of these expeditions which were not confined to his own lands only, but for the benefit of all. Returning from one such expedition in 659 from Tyaldi via the Keveril Pass he and his companions took refuge from a storm at the western end of the pass. Aldemar was drawn to pray in a cavern lit by shining stones and received a vision from The High Father who put to an end Aldemar's own wrestling with his conscience about the matter of rulership that had been pressed upon him many times.
He emerged from the cave and declared to his companions that the land needed a king, and without a king there would be no lasting safety from the darkness of the trolls. Messages were sent to the rulers of the various noble Houses of the land who were called to Sildern for a great council that lasted for a whole month. At the end of that time, Aldemar was pronounced king and crowned in the high temple in Sildern, pledging himself and his line to the service of the land and its people, and to the destruction of the trolls and all their kind.
