Dark Years

In contrast to the relatively brief but devastating warfare of the Troll Rise, the Dark Years were typified not by vast conflicts but by constant smaller scale raiding of human settlements and strongholds by small bands of Trolls and other dark creatures in their employ (for example the Grey Mistress)
They would not form great bands, nor would they face a massed army of defenders, but struck at weaker targets and devastated small regions, retreating into hiding when confronted in force.
It was a time of fear and despair, and the warriors of Kaevil in particular were steadfast in their response to the threat, forming small but deadly bands of mounted warriors capable of responding without delay to raised alarms. These Knights of Kaevil became renowned as heroes and many are the tales told of them.
Between 623 and 629 the attacks by the Trolls abated and after 629 the foul creatures came no more to the lands of man.
