Apex-122

"Apex-122. The first planet ever colonized by the galactic council. It has become the de facto capital planet of the entire faction as well as its primary commercial and industrial hub. It is also known among enemies of the council as extremely difficult to assault due to the thick metal shell surrounding the planet that on top of offering protection also artificially regulates the climate of the planet." - Hitchhiker's guide to Jeslore

Geography

Apex-122 used to be a lush planet with a very green climate. It was mostly covered in forests with jungle-like rainforests closer to its equator and pacific forests closer to its poles. Council colonization has rapidly changed (some would say ruined) the planet in the span of only a few hundred years due to unchecked hyper-capitalism extracting resources unsustainably. As of now the planet barely has its own ozone layer and what little lands that are not covered in highly advanced futuristic buildings resemble stone-like wastelands that have nothing to offer but living space. The planet is so densely populated that there are not even any highways connecting cities, as they are connected by default.   Instead, Apex-122 is divided into - districts, most of which are owned by large corporations or departments of the council:
  • The Extraction Point - The extraction point is the only entryway into the planet, essentially serving as an intensely bloated spaceport that also offers housing. Most of these housing opportunities are rental-based as they're designed for employees that need to travel out of the planet or need quick access to the teleportation stations located in the main hub. The extraction point resembles an immense train station or airport with food places set up throughout and travelers present at almost any time of the day. The extraction point also has a sub-sector dedicated to military groups as a defensive measure. The extraction point is undoubtedly the most welcoming sight on Apex-122, having access to the most up-to-date technology and being under the direct control of the galactic council. It is also here where the council chairmen hold most of their meetings.
  • The Foundry - A massive industrial sector featuring factories and R&D facilities as far as the eye can see. It is reported that up to 37% of Apex-122s pollution can be attributed to the foundry. The foundry has facilities owned by all corporations that have business with the council, but it is generally agreed that the de-facto owner of the foundry is the Bylian Arms Company. Among other things, this is where the infamous 150 trench rifles are constructed. Despite its immense size, especially for an industrial area, the foundry has no housing options and is simply used for employment only.
  • Luminus - Luminus is the scientific and medical zone of Apex-122. While most of the hospitals of other colonies get at least some percentage of their medicine from this district, it is also a well-funded scientific R&D sector that features laboratories and testing facilities as far as the eye reaches. It thanks its name from all the bright lights laboratories require to keep running, which lights up the horizon from afar day and night long. It is also responsible for the generation of power for the whole planet, which is handled by a subsidiary of the cole-a-cell corporation. Luminus has many companies working there, even the council has some projects in this district but the ownership is generally attributed to the ascension corporation.
  • The District of Governance - Another sector mostly owned by the council, this is where most government buildings are located. Most notably this is where the headquarters of the department of domestic security and civil protection is built as well as the headquarters of the department of trade and finance are located. There are also several summits here, built with the intent of hosting political meetings and press conferences. Finally, there is also a campus for the Cykx, who by treaty demand an embassy on the planets of allied factions.
  • The Control Panel - The final sector owned by the council and also the smallest one. The control panel is unsurprisingly mainly used for controlling the day/night cycle of the planet, regulating the temperature, keeping track of population statistics and things of that nature.
  • Sector A to Y - These are mostly housing sectors. Most of these are generally owned and ran autonomously by the people that live there but that is of course not without influence from both the council who seek to preserve peace and order and corporations who benefit from plastering ads all over it. These living sectors cover the basic needs and rights of the citizens of Apex-122 such as housing, access to clean food and water, education, entertainment, and so forth.
  • Jamesville - While this is technically the agricultural and production sector, James' immense influence, and the fact his animation company's headquarters are located here, it is colloquially known as Jamesville. It features staggering amounts of indoor farms and food production plants in addition to James' humongous studio and render farms.
  • Commercial District - The commercial district much like the foundry is responsible for the production of goods, but also the storage and shipping of these goods (it's for that reason they're located next to each other). It has skyscrapers and bank buildings as far as the eye reaches in addition to numerous server farms dedicated to hosting online services all over the planet. It hosts the warehouses of many companies but it is generally agreed upon that Aras Inc is the de-facto owner of this district, as Aras Inc warehouses stack higher than that of any other company.

Ecosystem

The ecosystem and environment of Apex-122 have been damaged to the point that things like weather, day and night cycle, air conditioning and more have to be maintained artificially. In addition to offering protection from attacking and displaying the correct 'sky', the shell encircling Apex-122 has air conditioning elements that use the freezing temperatures of space to cool elements, which then get used for blowing cold air into the planet itself. Without air conditioning, the ambient temperature of Apex-122 would be enough to melt most of the metal on the planet. There is no natural drinkable springwater or usable soil on Apex-122, it all has to be treated in facilities to work. Pollution has wrecked the natural resources of Apex-122 beyond use.

Fauna & Flora

All biological organisms present prior to the colonization of the planet are extinct in the wild and have been moved to sanctuaries and zoos.

History

It is no secret that large corporations callously pollute the environment around them, and it is also no secret that this pollution has catastrophic effects on planets. Before the colonization of other planets, Jeslore severely suffered from the corporations that relentlessly harvested the planet's resources. But when space travel was developed, the galactic council and dracholmian union agreed that companies were to largely pull out of the planet and that Jeslore would be turned into a sanctuary planet. Corporations obliged and pulled their major factories out of the planet, leaving behind only their smaller production facilities that could not cause more damage than the planet's ecosystem could repair on its own. Jeslore was essentially turned into a theme park of sorts, clean of corporate pollution and free to develop into a utopia of sorts. A planet with a cultural and evolutionary history this rich had to be preserved as something special.   Of course, the corporations had to go somewhere. And Apex-122 at the time was a planet that offered plentiful amounts of resources, so it was perhaps an obvious choice for corporations to want to use Apex-122 as their first base. Unfortunately, this was back when the galactic council had not yet passed a lot of laws and the corporations essentially had free reign on this planet. In an almost perverse way now Apex-122 is a planet constantly on the brink of detonating itself which is stopped by the artificial measures put in place to forcibly keep the planet together. Many have criticized this practice as inhumane and perverse and while companies still defend it, many do ask the question of whether the preservation of one thing justifies the destruction of another. Though given that this question could be considered philosophical it has been largely dismissed by corporations. It is also based on the assumption that a living system is comparable to a living thing, which most PR departments of corporations dismiss as insane and outrageous.
