The Peacekeepers

"Also known as 'the police', the peacekeepers are a sister organization of the peacemakers that is less concerned with military operations and more concerned with maintaining order and peace within society. Peacekeeper agents enforce the law in a variety of ways from handing out parking tickets to arresting criminals." - A description of the peacekeepers in a small crash course book for off-world immigrants 'a space traveler's guide to Jeslore'.

Structure

Peacekeeper officers obey a chain of command stationed in bureaus that are peppered throughout settlements. A commissioner is at the top of this command chain with several classes below them. There are patrol units that do the brunt of the work of upkeeping order, traffic officers that keep traffic rules enforced when standard utilities are offline, detectives that are tasked with investigating crimes and sheriffs and their deputies that are deployed in less densely populated areas and finally there are the responders who are trained to deal with heavy resistance that's typically associated with bank robberies and such.   Peacekeepers are often met with a very awkward dynamic when it comes to who they should obey; usually, they respond to their commissioner but they often fight by the side of the peacemakers or even the council commando if the AO is particularly rough, in which case they need to refer to the field captains that are present on the scene. Detectives though are in close relation to the justice court, the jury, and the judges. A judge might get a detective in trouble if they fail to bring in a suspect alive that is important to a case. Meanwhile, sheriffs are known to work in isolation a lot and can go weeks without order while the heavy responders take orders from their team captains and specially commissioned field strategists. Unlike the peacemakers and the council commando, the peacekeepers are expected to do loads of paperwork.   Due to the high population of the peacekeepers, Detectives are allowed to pick two heavy responders of their choosing to assist them in cases. Traditionally one responder is placed in a bodyguard role for the family of the detective, in case the suspect might retaliate and the other one is tasked with protecting the detective himself. This also adds to the awkward command chain dynamic as the responders in this case answer directly to the detective.

Public Agenda

Enforce the law, maintain order, and lock up criminals.

Assets

Peacekeepers have a surprising amount of variety in their equipment, even if they're just on patrol. Naturally, their weapons are not as heavy as what a peacemaker would wield due to the sparsity of their need for it and their relatively short mission length. Yet the heavy responders are known to wield almost military equipment and even detectives are given high-performance weapons to deal with the threat of an armed suspect.   They have plenty of vehicles, most of them unarmored ranging from helicopters to cruisers to APCs, depending on the class and crew they are in. They are all equipped with pagers to allow uninterrupted access to other peacekeeper units in the area and are also (unknowingly) equipped with activity sensors, allowing higher-ups to track units down that have gone silent either due to kidnappings, an unexpected death or in the event they've gone rogue.

History

Somewhere halfway the vortaustkank, with melee weapons falling heavily out of popularity and guns becoming increasingly accessible a new law enforcement crew had to be set up for several reasons: -Guns were more than capable of punching straight through most plate armor, making standard town guard equipment completely obsolete.   -The war was stretching troops thin, more and more soldiers were pulled out of guard duty and deployed on the field.   -Crime, in general, was getting smarter, specific training had to be given to deal with threats.   -For years, crime was tracked differently in different countries, allowing criminals to fully evade justice by moving out of the country.   -The military presence was threatening to civilians.   -Soldiers didn't always have the best judgment when it came to dealing with crimes, resulting in countless false trials that cost the government millions.   -Soldiers were easier to corrupt, especially when they had served in battle before and were generally more unreliable and unfit.   It didn't take long for the government to agree a special unit had to be set up specifically tailored to deal with criminals. A special committee was commissioned to design a training course specifically tailored to strike a balance between combat performance, crowd control, and office work. Uniforms were designed with light armor, made to absorb damage from small arms but also to sit comfortably and look low profile. Bloodspike, having a rampant crime problem was the first to deploy peacekeepers and shortly after them all allied countries followed suit.

To serve and protect, for order and peace.
