Imaginaerium, Day 27 - Horror Edition

Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book, or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now.
— Annie Dillard
We're starting to close in on the third drop of prompts now, and the mad scramble of finishing up the existing ones has definitely set in for me. So what better way to set the mood for that than with some horror recommendations?   Streams are still going real strong, and Discord is as active as ever. If you're having trouble, or feeling stuck, or just want some sunshine in your day, come hang out in one of 'em!

Book Recommendation

by Sandy Petersen
Though we now praise such studies, students of preternatural life forms once were castigated and persecuted. For generations, “pracktikal metaphysiques” were threatened merely for striving after the truth. Those pioneers faced hair-raising danger—not only from the things they studied, but also from the hand of their fellow man.
Beautifully illustrated and full of lore, the Field Guide to Lovecraftian Monster is a great resource both for leaning a bit about Lovecraft Mythos stuff (and running Call of Cthulhu!), but getting some horror ideas in general.   Find it here: DrivethruRPG

Video Recommendation

Okay, this is a bit of a goof. I'm not sure I really think this channel is that... Good, but it's sort of a guilty pleasure to watch. They do go over a lot of horror-themed things, from movies to RPGs to games, so you'll find some neat ideas there. It's worth putting up with "that chair moved slightly, EVIDENCE!" hot takes that sometimes flies around.

Game Recommenation

A 8-bit-y, Junji Ito inspired roguelite, World of Horror has some remarkable visuals and plenty of gruesome ideas for you to extract, like tiny-human faced maggots from a wound that screams. It's currently in early access, so you might want to wait and see. If you do, I'll link to someone playing it so you can check it out without paying up.     And the LP:

Music Recommendation

Staying with the Horror theme this time...

And if you want some creepy horror inspiration, why not check out my world of Necro-Industrial Complex? The spookiest of all spooks, it involves greedy capitalists getting their hands on and industralizing capitalism in an age before stuff like OSHA and worker's rights. Spoooky!

For an artist I'd really recommend Zdzisław Beksiński's work. It's absolutely stunning. And I'm talking the later paintings, not the photography he started with. Also - for games - I recently played Tormentum Dark Sorrow which has amazing art and an interesting story. And of course, my favourite game that can be classified as horror in a way is "Little Nightmares". Hope those can extra-help someone :)

I remember him! Very eerie and evocative picture - and if you google "polish artist hell", his name come up - that's definitely a sign. :D   Definitely echo that recommendation. Zdzislaw's stuff is amazing!

That game Tormentum is actually highly inspired by his work.
