SE07 : EP02 - A Simple Honey Run - Part II

General Summary

Mimic Cart fight night - August 28 Essa Urati - Matt’s Yuan-Ti
Surprised right before dawn by bandits. Then we’re both surprised by MIMIC CART.
Yith, Cass, and Merit surprised in tents. Essa casts Chill Touch but it misses. MoBahn rages and wails and recklessly attacks the cart. (16 hits) Doesn’t get pickaxe stuck, but notices the stickiness. Nuk Kul savagely takes out one of the bandits. Cart can open up additional mouths when it wants to, bites at MoBahn and Nuk Kul, but neither is taken in. Pryce lobs a chromatic orb Cass rushes into battle with a flurry of blows against the giant mimic, getting her right arm stuck to the adhesive. Two barrels leap off the cart, revealing themselves to be ADDITIONAL smaller mimics. They both attack Cass. Merit casts with and bloom, killing two bandits, hurting the barrel mimics, and healing Cass. Inspires cass. Essa successfully chill touches the barrel mimics. MoBahn and Nuk Kul go to town on the big one, Nuk Kul gets his club stuck on one. Yith fires off pyrotechnics, temporarily blinding one of the bandits, and inspires nuk kul. The cart starts driving away, running over Mobhan and Essa and dragging Cass and Nuk Kul with it. Pryce casts witch bolt at the approaching mimic cart. The barrel mimics rush at the now-prone mobahn, but don’t do too much damage. Cass unsticks herself, tears off the wheel, and delivers the killing blow to the cart’s soft underbelly. Seeing it fall, she rushes over to one of the barrel mimics and flurry of blows it, getting her left hand stuck this time.
Essa heals nuk kul. Merit fires off magic missile, taking out the final barrel.
Nuk kul finds some treasure and a scroll amongst the body of the cart mimic. He keeps the gold, but divvies the jewelry up amongst the group, giving cass two pieces. The group catches the last couple hours of rest they can, except for mobahn who insists on staying up because mobahn.
On the second day, we pass a few other carts going the other way. One of them is oddly overgrown, with its elf driver arguing with the ox pulling it. “Xalrigar’s curios.” (The ox ate all the milkweed.)
Bag of mystery. Mobahn gets mauve sleeping cap, parchment puzzle, red book with a lock holding it closed. Fiery die for dragon dice. Cass gets a bent cloak clasp with a coat of arms (Red and white shield with a standing lion) that is bent. Essa mends it, and reveals that it is the crest of the royal family here. (“Opensss doorsss”)
They make camp for the second night in a more open area, Nuk Kul asks Pryce about who’s in charge amongst medians. Suggested he should talk to Orwyn about helping out, rather than Ryder. Merit and Essa see some Fey Squirrels taking refuge under the cart from the rain. Merit gets very concerned that Essa will hurt the squirrels. Cass tells Yith about Essa wanting asylum.
In the morning we find the squirrels DID try to get the honey, but did not succeed. Mobahn makes more animals.
They arrive at the kingdom of Alabaster - all the buildings are made of marble, and very fancy looking -on the outside anyway. The interiors of buildings look poorer and more run down. The guards visibly look down on Essa, but accept the papers we have with us.
The people we see appear to be very hard-worked laborers, lots of guards around too. Essa surreptitiously hands off some jewelry to a particular gnome laborer he knew here.
They are taking up more affluent districts on the road to the king's castle.
